Job Summary
To support the Equine team and the Underwriting Support Assistant team in delivering high-quality client service, ensuring new and renewal business is processed to agreed service standards.
About the Team
The Equine team provides comprehensive Equestrian & Bloodstock insurance and reinsurance protection for clients worldwide. Convex is unique in the London insurance market in that its Underwriters have first-hand practical equine experience, providing insight into the requirements of this niche sector.
Key Responsibilities
Reporting directly to the Head of the ELA Team, your key responsibilities will include:
- Build and maintain strong working relationships with Underwriting teams, ensuring Underwriting management is regularly communicated with and kept up to date.
- Support the Underwriting Support Assistant team, which takes ownership of administration and referrals.
- Develop an understanding of the Equine line of business.
- Complete pre-underwriting calculations and work as directed by the Underwriter.
- Attend peer review meetings and participate in discussions on risks within the division.
- Ensure peer review packs/meeting preparation is completed and logged on the Underwriting system.
- Produce and collate data for business planning.
- Manage the flow of bound risks received from the Underwriters.
- Run Underwriting and MI reports as required.
- Ensure all processing and credit control queries are answered within SLA timeframes.
- Provide general assistance to Underwriters with administrative duties.
- Liaise with brokers upon request, as well as with internal departments such as credit control, claims, and compliance.
- Work with Underwriting teams to ensure efficient working practices, including identifying process improvements, providing feedback to reduce rework or errors, and escalating any blockages to the team leader.
- Be aware of the regulatory impact and ensure all underwriting activity is within guidelines at all times.
- Learn the technical aspects of pricing and insurance terms and conditions alongside and within the Underwriting team.
- Understand market and competitor dynamics.
- Work within the Company’s code of conduct.
Requirements
- 1 to 2 years of insurance experience, alongside a passion for the equestrian industry.
- Very strong numeracy and analytical skills.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills.
- Ability to use discretion to resolve issues.
- Continuous improvement mindset.
- Ability to work flexibly to complete duties, particularly during peak underwriting periods.
- Proven ability to prioritize and organize effectively.
- Proven ability to work with speed and accuracy, particularly under pressure.
- Experience supporting work allocation and working to SLAs/tight deadlines.
- Proven experience building and maintaining good working relationships.
- Committed to developing a career in Underwriting and studying, or committed to studying CII exams.
