The Internship

The purpose of our Risk Management Group is clear: creating a better future by managing the risks of today and anticipating the risks of tomorrow. As a grad, you will join an independent central function responsible for objective review and challenge, oversight, monitoring and reporting in relation to Macquarie’s material risks.

As part of this ten-week internship, you will:

  • Complete meaningful and challenging work to connect practical experience with your theoretical knowledge.
  • Participate in an orientation to learn about Macquarie’s business groups, receive technical training, and connect with fellow interns.
  • Receive support and guidance from your manager and aligned mentor.
  • Participate in philanthropic and social events to build connections within an inclusive culture.
  • Present a project you worked on during the program to senior management.

What role will you play?

As an intern in the Risk Management Group, you will discover how a sound risk culture has been integral to Macquarie’s risk management framework since inception. This is a direct placement opportunity with our Credit team in New York.

The Credit team manages and oversees counterparty credit, equity, and asset risks taken by Macquarie. This is delivered through a credit risk management framework that articulates the approach to assessment, approval, monitoring, and reporting of these risks.

As an intern with the Credit team in New York, you will gain exposure to several asset classes, including leveraged loans, high yield bonds, mezzanine debt, and equity investments across a number of industries.

What you offer

  • Students expecting to graduate and complete their studies between December 2027 and June 2028.
  • A critical thinker with strong numerical skills and the ability to articulate ideas clearly.
  • A proactive, resourceful, and positive attitude, with a strong work ethic and comfort building open, dialogue-based working relationships.
  • Strong attention to detail, including experience and comfort with Excel.
  • Interest in financial services, particularly credit risk analysis, financial analysis, and due diligence processes.
  • Estimated salary amount equivalent to $90,000–$110,000 annually (actual base salary may vary based on relevant experience, time in role, peer and market data, prior performance, business sector, and geographic location).

Our Risk Management Group works as an independent, centralised function responsible for independent and objective review and challenge, oversight, monitoring and reporting in relation to Macquarie’s material risks. We aim to manage the risks of today and anticipate the risks of tomorrow. Our divisions include compliance, credit, financial crime risk, market risk, operational risk, aggregate risk, and prudential and central.
