Supply, Trading & Shipping, Asia Pacific and Middle East (ST&S APME) is the supply and trading arm of bp. It serves as bp’s face to traded markets for oil, gas, power, refinery and chemical feedstock and currencies. Leveraging unique expertise and insights, ST&S APME is a leading buyer and seller of spot cargoes, with a focus on responsiveness and the introduction of new products to keep the world’s energy moving.
ST&S APME supports other bp businesses by providing a competitive supply and trading function covering Oil, Chemicals, Power and Gas, as well as a suite of risk management tools. Trading activities deliver gross margin through entrepreneurial trading and the optimization of blending and shipping operations. The team aims to grow the Eastern Hemisphere supply and trading business into an industry-leading organization that is profitable and safe, and that respects the environment and communities where it operates.
Role Summary
We are seeking an applicant for the position of Trading Operator, based in Singapore. The successful candidate will be part of the larger Trading Operations team and will report to the Team Lead, GDIST – Middle Distillates.
The team focuses on extracting maximum value through commercial execution of physical contracts, effective stock inventory management, timely scheduling of deliveries to end receivers, and optimizing cargo matching and tanker berthing/delivery schedules.
What You Will Deliver
- Ensure all operational activities are conducted in compliance with relevant HSSE and operating standards
- Work closely with BP Shipping to ensure alignment with BP Shipping policy
- Collaborate with Contracts, Trade Control, Financial Operations, and Credit teams to provide assurance on trading processes and procedures
- Schedule the movement of petroleum products to customers
- Maintain timely and accurate records in relevant systems
- Monitor stocks at terminals
- Work with traders to implement new trading strategies and improve the value of existing strategies
- Proactively manage and recover demurrage and oil loss costs
- Develop, maintain, and enhance relationships with third parties, including terminals, shipping brokers, surveyors, and marketing businesses
- Provide market intelligence to support analytics and traders’ understanding of market activity
What You Will Need to Be Successful
- Ability to implement compliance and HSSE requirements related to operations
- Strong knowledge of domestic processes and documentation
- Strong interpersonal skills; able to build and maintain successful relationships
- Strong communication skills
- Strong teamwork mindset, proactive, and assertive
- Strong analytical skills and commercial awareness
- Prior working experience in a trading operations or bunkering operations environment (advantage)
- Prior knowledge of middle distillates (advantage)
Key Technical Competencies
- Knowledge of the energy trading industry
- A university degree or equivalent experience, or a diploma holder preferred; however, specific education is less important than behaviors and a strong track record of high performance and contribution
Travel Requirement
Negligible travel should be expected with this role.
