Internship Title
Intern, FICC Trading (4-6 months)
The role will support the overall success of the FICC sales and trading activities in Singapore, ensuring compliance with governing regulations, internal policies, and procedures. The internship involves working within the sales and marketing strategy to secure new, profitable business as well as further developing existing client relationships to achieve sustainable revenue growth. It includes generating and maximizing trading profit and client revenues, understanding the risk profile of transactions, and implementing processes to manage those risks.
Role & Responsibilities
- Champion a customer-focused culture to deepen client relationships and leverage broader Bank relationships, systems, and knowledge.
- Promote a high-performance environment and contribute to an inclusive work environment.
- Foster an environment where the team pursues effective and efficient operations in accordance with Scotiabank’s values, Code of Conduct, and Global Sales Principles, while ensuring day-to-day business controls to meet obligations related to operational, compliance, AML/ATF/sanctions, and conduct risk.
- Understand how the Bank’s risk appetite and risk culture should be considered in day-to-day activities and decisions.
- Be responsible for making prices and managing risk while working with internal sales staff to develop client order flow.
- Support deals in investments and execution of trades; assist senior traders in generating trade ideas and maximizing trading profit, and create linkages between client base and the desk.
- Foster new and existing client relationships and cross-sell across other areas and product groups.
Requirements
- Undergraduate with a degree/major in Accounting, Business (Banking and Finance), Economics, or Computing.
- Preferably in Year 2 or onward of undergraduate studies.
- Ability to work closely with traders and salespersons in a fast-paced and stressful environment.
- Proficient in Microsoft Office (Word, PowerPoint, Excel).
- Excellent oral and written communication and interpersonal skills (strong English writing skills).
- Able to multi-task and work under pressure.
- Self-starter with methodical, logical, solution-driven thinking and commercial awareness.
- Familiarity with financial markets and related FICC products is a plus.
Learning Outcomes
- Acquire a better understanding of FICC products, the business, and the financial industry.
- Exposure to banking regulation and compliance.
- Gain understanding of banking processes and their application in the industry.
- Certification in Financial Market Regulation & Practice and/or CMFAS is a plus.
- Familiarity with Bloomberg and Reuters.
- Gain insights on how to interact with and support customers based on their needs.
