Job Description
The Retail Banker I is a customer liaison integral to delivering TD’s Brand promise by utilizing financial expertise and consultative advice to assist Customers with their banking solutions/needs. This role contributes to the achievement of business objectives that enable growth through identifying appropriate TD solutions that help Customers achieve their financial goals and optimize their relationship with TD.
Depth & Scope
- Proficient in products, services and routine transactions to identify opportunities to educate on Bank products and services to Customers and/or refer them to the appropriate team member or internal Bank partners, while ensuring a positive Customer experience
- Broad knowledge of the full product suite, services and processes of the business area; low to moderate complexity/risk
- Establishes and nurtures Customer relationships by displaying product knowledge, listening to Customer needs, and offering solutions or partner referrals
- Makes product recommendations based on Customer needs and highlights features/benefits that support Customers during life events, save time and money, and exceed their needs
- Utilizes Customer relationship management tools to proactively identify Customer solutions and lead-focused outbound sales activities
- Independently resolves customer issues and escalates when necessary
- Builds working relationships with customers and explains detailed/involved information
- Requires full proficiency gained through job-related training to perform a range of activities
- Participates in Customer outreach, servicing and advisory activities to deliver on the unexpectedly human promise
- Engages in conversations about loan products and facilitates application intake
- Must maintain an active registration status with NMLS (Nationwide Mortgage Licensing System and Registry)
Education & Experience
- HS Diploma or GED
- 1+ years of experience working with customers and/or sales in any capacity or equivalent demonstrated through volunteering, education, or military experience (preferred)
- Teller experience preferred
- Must be able to complete teller training upon hire to handle customer transactions
- Demonstrated ability to engage in customer conversations while educating them on products and services (preferred)
- Demonstrated organizational skills to handle multiple tasks in a fast-paced environment
- Excellent communication skills: concise, clear, and consistent
- Demonstrated ability to schedule and prioritize work
- Ability to work independently and within deadlines
- Sound judgment in decision making and effective problem solving
- Proficient in Microsoft Office
- Notary License (Preferred)
Customer Accountabilities
- Delivers Legendary experience by helping customers, building relationships, and delivering service and advice
- Understands and supports the Bank's Customer Service Strategy; provides end-to-end advisory support and proactive insights
- Serves as a Customer advocate, improving financial confidence and offering proactive tips
- Consistently delivers a Legendary Customer experience through problem resolution or sound advice
- Manages lobby flow, warmly welcomes customers, discovers needs, and guides them appropriately
- Educates customers on self-service options and best practices based on customer preferences
- May act as a point of escalation for customer questions or concerns
- May perform teller transactions (e.g., check cashing, deposits, transfers, withdrawals) while monitoring fraud and adhering to policies
- Considers the impact of decisions on TD, customers, and stakeholders
- Acts as a brand ambassador internally and externally
- Educates clients on self-service channels including digital options
- Brings authenticity to each banking transaction, creating a personalized experience
Shareholder Accountabilities
- Ensures compliance with company guidelines and regulations (e.g., Bank Secrecy Act, Patriot Act) to minimize risk
- Participates in daily store operations in alignment with TD's risk framework
- Understands and applies operating policies and procedures
- Supports timely and accurate completion of business processes
- Escalates non-standard or high-risk transactions/activities as necessary
- Ensures documentation reflects client/business intentions and complies with rules/regulations
- Performs due diligence to support accuracy of all customer transactions
- Complies with Bank Code of Conduct

OCC Language
- This position falls within the definition of Loan Originator under Regulation Z (Truth in Lending Act) and Mortgage Loan Originator under the SAFE Act
- Must be eligible for employment with a covered financial institution under Regulation Z
- Must be eligible for registration as a registered mortgage loan originator with the NMLS
- Requires satisfactory results on criminal background check and credit check, and applicable disclosures
