Position: Human Capital Analytics Developer

The D. E. Shaw group seeks a talented developer to join its Human Capital (HC) Analytics team. HC Analytics curates and leverages data to help answer strategic and operational talent questions for leaders across the business. This role combines full stack development with data analysis, acting as a product owner and developer for key analytics tools, with the opportunity to contribute to technical and operational aspects of the compensation reporting infrastructure.

What you’ll do day-to-day

• Expand HC Analytics’ automated analytics portfolio by developing novel reporting solutions, primarily using Python.
• Develop dashboards for the firm’s senior leadership and build other reporting products from the ground up, contributing to the ETL pipelines and infrastructure initiatives.
• Maintain and update Python packages that underpin the team’s reporting and analytics capabilities, ensuring codebases remain robust and well-documented.
• Help troubleshoot technical issues, contribute to process improvements, and support the ongoing evolution of the team’s reporting infrastructure.
• Use Git and GitHub to manage code repositories, track changes, and facilitate collaborative development and code review processes.
• Conduct ad hoc analyses to address operational and strategic questions, collaborating closely with colleagues across Human Capital and related teams.

Who we’re looking for

• A bachelor’s degree or higher in a technical, quantitative, or related field, with one to three years of experience working with Python for code maintenance, SQL, and GraphQL for data querying and transformation.
• Demonstrated ability to manage operational tasks, troubleshoot technical issues, deliver high-quality analyses in a fast-paced environment, and handle confidential information with discretion.
• Interest in generative AI and a desire to use it to improve and reimagine tools, workflows, and deliverables.
• Excellent communication skills, attention to detail, and a collaborative approach to problem solving.
• Experience using Git and GitHub for version control, code collaboration, and code review processes.
• Motivation to learn, adaptability to shifting priorities, and an interest in pursuing more advanced analytics and data science projects over time.

Salary & Benefits: The expected annual base salary for this position is $135,000 to $160,000. Our compensation and benefits package includes variable compensation in the form of a year-end bonus (guaranteed in the first year of hire), medical and prescription drug coverage, 401(k) contribution matching, wellness reimbursement, family building benefits, and a charitable gift match program.
