About the Technology Directorate

The Technology division leads and supports all aspects of technology delivery across the Bank. This spans maintaining critical systems that underpin the UK economy, providing big data analytics, implementing comprehensive cybersecurity programmes, and introducing innovative solutions to support a digital workplace.

Technology’s key objective is to support all other areas of the Bank in achieving its collective mission to promote the good of the people of the UK by maintaining monetary and financial stability. This is accomplished through the delivery of appropriate, high-performing, and resilient solutions and information services across the organisation and externally.

This role supports the Test Enablement function within the Digital Assurance & Productivity Domain, reporting under the CTO Division. This function is principally responsible for defining, establishing, and forward planning the Bank’s portfolio release and test environment management function.

The Analyst will collaborate with other related functions to coordinate release and test environment activity and own associated risks. This role manages, plans, schedules, governs, and controls a software release through various development lifecycle stages and environments. Duties include deploying software releases, contention management, and working closely with Delivery, Testing teams, and the Business.

Key Responsibilities / Accountabilities

  • Scheduling and planning software releases and maintaining/distributing the release schedule.
  • Working collaboratively and managing communication with relevant stakeholders.
  • Maintaining records and controlling environment usage to support release and change management activities.
  • Engaging with Service teams to ensure Releases comply with the Change Management process.
  • Coordinating software implementations across test (controlled) and Live environments, and providing input/support for Release representation at the Change Advisory Board (CAB).
  • Providing support in collating and reviewing all artifacts required for every release (including Release Acceptance Criteria).
  • Providing administrative support, which includes arranging meetings, minute-taking, documentation, resource requests for releases, change request closure, record keeping, and audit support.

Required Skills and Experience

Core Experience

  • Previous experience working in a service management role.
  • Knowledge of change and release management principles and the processes required for supporting them.
  • Understanding of the Software Development Lifecycle (SDLC).
  • Knowledge of test environment management (route to Live).
  • Knowledge of Service Management tools (e.g., Remedy, Service Now or similar).

Business Acumen

  • Proven ability to develop a detailed understanding of the business function related to a system under change and the stakeholders’ risk appetite, in order to articulate appropriate test environment designs based on test objectives and the test strategy.
  • Ability to occasionally understand complex business processes involving the interaction of multiple systems.
  • A general understanding of the Bank’s various responsibilities and how they fit into the Bank’s overall objectives.
  • A general appreciation of the Banking and insurance industry.

Minimum Criteria

  • Knowledge of Change, Release, and Test Environment Management tools (e.g., BMC Helix, Planview Release & Verify, Jira, Azure DevOps).
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills for presenting to both Business and Technology teams.
  • An understanding of the Software Development Lifecycle (SDLC).
  • Flexibility, as some out-of-hours and weekend work will be required.

Essential Criteria

  • Understanding of Release management.
  • Understanding of Project management skills.
  • Understanding of Service management skills.
  • Familiarity with ITIL.
  • Proficient use of MS Office programmes, especially MS Excel and MS PowerPoint.

Desirable Criteria

  • Test Environment management skills.
  • Experience with Planview Release & Verify.
  • Familiarity with JIRA/Confluence.
  • Exposure to Source Code Management tools (ideally GITHub).
  • Experience with Azure DevOps.
  • Understanding of automation and AI.
  • Knowledge of reporting tools (ideally PowerBI or Tableau).

Salary and Benefits Information

We encourage flexible working, part-time working, and job share arrangements. Part-time salary and benefits will be on a pro-rated basis as appropriate.

Salary Ranges:

  • London salary: £33,600 - £37,800
  • Leeds salary: £30,240 - £34,020

Benefits Package:

  • A non-contributory, career average pension providing a guaranteed retirement benefit of 1/80th of annual salary for every year worked. Options exist to increase (to 1/65th) or decrease (to 1/105th) accrual rates in exchange for salary via the flexible benefits programme.
  • A discretionary performance award based on a current award pool.
  • An 8% benefits allowance, convertible to salary or used to purchase a wide range of flexible benefits.
  • 26 days’ annual leave, with the option to purchase up to 12 additional days through flexible benefits.
