Summer College Internship Program

The Summer College Internship Program is a 10-week paid internship experience designed for undergraduate and graduate students. Participants have the opportunity to attend development workshops, network, and contribute to meaningful projects while being mentored by their respective managers throughout the summer. The program offers development workshops focused on key business concepts.

Interns may work within skills-based tracks including Business Administration, Information Technology, Actuarial, Human Resources, Analytics & Data, Communications, Finance, Marketing & Sales, Project Management, Clinical Studies, Customer Experience, Digital Operations, and other non-technical or technical degree programs.

Program Details

• This is a paid 10-week summer internship, running from the first Monday in June to the second Friday in August (up to 40 hours per week).
• Interns may be placed in either a technical or non-technical area.
• Development workshops are provided to assist in the transition from academic study to the corporate environment.
• Housing is not provided as part of this program.

Essential Accountabilities

• Specific duties will vary by assignment, with divisional callouts provided below.
• Evaluate opportunities to reduce healthcare costs and improve the value of care through medical claims analysis. This involves working with medical economics, clinical, and data analytics teams to investigate cost savings initiatives, assess potential opportunities using internal and external data, and develop estimates of short-term and long-term financial impact under various assumptions.
• Support key strategic projects while working with a dedicated mentor.
• Complete work assignments based on evolving business needs, departmental priorities, and individual qualifications.
• Perform a combination of technical and non-technical tasks across a broad range of business-related projects.
• Create and deliver presentations upon completion of the internship.
• Consistently demonstrate high standards of integrity by supporting the company's mission and values, adhering to the Corporate Code of Conduct, and embodying the Lifetime Way values and beliefs.
• Maintain strict confidentiality and protect member privacy according to company policies.
• Regular and reliable attendance is expected and required.
• Perform other functions as assigned by management.

Minimum Qualifications

Desired Majors/Degree Programs Include: Actuarial, Statistics, Math, Economics, or similar programs.

Preferred (but not required) experience includes: Excel, coding (SAS, SQL, R, Python), and communicating across various teams.

• Must possess a High School diploma along with proof of continuous college enrollment (full-time undergraduate or graduate degree program).
• Must be in good academic standing.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to interact with technical and non-technical audiences and interface with staff at all company levels.
• Ability to multitask effectively in a fast-paced environment while maintaining strong attention to detail and delivering high-quality work product.
• Ability to work well in a team and establish good working relationships with peers.
• Demonstrates strong organizational, analytical, problem-solving, and prioritization skills.
• Possesses a proactive approach to work, displaying creativity and flexibility in completing assigned tasks.
• Is committed to the continuous improvement of skills and team functioning.
• Is self-motivated and capable of working independently, as well as on intra- and inter-departmental teams as needed.
• Experience with Microsoft Office Suite.
• Experience using a desktop computer in a professional environment.

Physical Requirements

• Ability to work while sitting and/or standing at a workstation viewing a computer and using a keyboard, mouse, and/or phone for three (3) or more hours at a time.
• Ability to travel across the Health Plan service region for meetings and/or training courses as needed.

Compensation and EEO

Compensation Range

Level I Range: Minimum $18.00 - Maximum $20.00

The salary range indicates the minimum and maximum for this position. Actual salary depends on factors including, but not limited to, budget availability, prior experience, knowledge, skill, and education relative to the minimum qualifications, in addition to internal equity. This posted range reflects one component of the total rewards package, which may include group health and/or dental insurance, retirement plans, wellness programs, paid time off, and paid holidays.
