Audit Intern
KPMG is currently seeking an Audit Intern to join our Audit and Assurance team. Responsibilities
- Work within a team to conduct financial statement audits, ensuring accuracy and reliability of client financial information while upholding objectivity and independence to serve the capital markets.
- Contribute to the overall effectiveness of client operations while maintaining the highest standards of professional integrity.
- Develop an understanding of client-specific risks by reviewing financial results, relevant external information, current business trends, and client transactions, primarily for Japanese clients or non-Japanese companies requiring strategic assistance in Japan.
- Prepare clear and well-structured audit documentation detailing the understanding of client processes and technology systems, translating complex findings into actionable insights.
- Execute and document testing of client controls and financial statement account balances using appropriate standards and terminology with guidance.
- Support a high-quality audit through task execution and professional interaction with clients and engagement teams.
- Support data-driven auditing by utilizing technologies and data analysis tools, including AI, Excel, Alteryx, SQL, and Power BI.
Qualifications and Requirements
Education and Licensure
- Must be enrolled in an accredited college or university pursuing a Bachelor or Master of Accountancy or an equivalent program.
- Must be pursuing educational requirements for CPA licensure in the principal place of business for this position.
- Must have completed at least one college-level accounting course at the time of application.
- Upon completion of this internship, candidates must still have academic credits to complete to meet their degree and/or CPA eligibility requirements.
Skills and Experience
- Preferred GPA of 3.0 or above.
- Bilingual fluency in English and Japanese, with the ability to use both languages in a business environment.
- Coursework or minor in information systems, software engineering, computer science, or data and analytics is preferred; experience with data analysis tools such as Alteryx or Power BI is preferred.
- Knowledge of technical accounting and financial reporting standards, including U.S. Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP).
- Ability to leverage common business technologies, including MS Office (with an emphasis on Excel) and AI, and quickly learn KPMG Audit tools.
- Strong technical acumen, business acumen, critical thinking, and agility skills. Must demonstrate the ability to excel and drive strategic outcomes with a professional demeanor and collaborative leadership approach in a dynamic environment.
- Strong communication, organization, and relationship-building skills, demonstrating professional judgment and skepticism while managing multiple priorities to deliver high-quality work in a professional services capacity.
Logistics and Work Details
- Must reside within a reasonably commutable distance to the office and be able to travel to reasonably commutable work locations using personal transportation or public transport.
- Audit and Assurance professionals are expected to work in-person at a KPMG office or client site an average of three days per week; some client sites may require travel and overnight/extended stays.
