KPMG is currently seeking an Audit Intern to join our Audit and Assurance team.
Responsibilities
- Work as part of a team to conduct financial statement audits and help ensure the accuracy and reliability of client financial information while upholding objectivity and independence.
- Contribute to the effectiveness of client operations while maintaining the highest standards of professional integrity.
- Develop an understanding of client-specific risks by reviewing financial results, relevant external information, current business trends, and client transactions, primarily for Japanese clients or non-Japanese companies requiring strategic assistance in Japan.
- Prepare clear, well-structured audit documentation regarding client processes and technology systems, and translate complex findings into clear, actionable insights.
- With appropriate guidance, execute and document testing of client controls and financial statement account balances using appropriate standards and terminology.
- Support high-quality audits through assigned tasks and professional interactions with clients and engagement teams.
- Support data-driven audits by using technologies and data analysis tools, including artificial intelligence (AI), Excel, Alteryx, SQL, and Power BI.
Qualifications
- Be enrolled in an accredited college or university and pursuing a Bachelor of Accountancy, Master of Accountancy, or equivalent degree program.
- Be pursuing the educational requirements for CPA licensure in the principal place of business for this position, including completion of the academic credits required before starting as an Audit Associate.
- Upon completion of the internship, have additional academic credits remaining before obtaining a degree and/or meeting CPA eligibility requirements.
- Have completed at least one college-level accounting course at the time of application.
- Preferred GPA of 3.0 or above.
- Be bilingual in English and Japanese, with the ability to use both languages in a business environment.
- Coursework or a minor in information systems, software engineering, computer science, or data and analytics is preferred.
- Experience with data analysis tools such as Alteryx or Power BI is preferred.
- Knowledge of technical accounting and financial reporting standards, including U.S. generally accepted accounting principles (GAAP).
- Ability to use common business technologies, including Microsoft Office, particularly Excel, and AI tools, and to quickly learn KPMG audit tools and client applications.
- Strong technical, business acumen, critical-thinking, and agility skills, with the ability to drive strategic outcomes and maintain a professional demeanor in a dynamic, evolving environment.
- Strong communication, organization, and relationship-building skills, with the ability to apply professional judgment and skepticism, manage multiple priorities, and deliver high-quality work in a professional services environment.
- Reside within a reasonably commutable distance of the office and be able to travel to reasonably commutable work locations using personal transportation or public transportation.
Work Environment
Audit and Assurance professionals are expected to work in person at a KPMG office or client site an average of three days per week. Some client-site assignments may require travel and overnight or extended stays, depending on the office and engagement.
Compensation and Benefits
KPMG offers a comprehensive compensation and benefits package. Salary is determined based on factors such as skills, job responsibilities, relevant experience, degrees, certifications, and market considerations.
California salary range: $74,000–$100,000.
Eligible employees may receive medical and dental plans, vision coverage, disability and life insurance, 401(k) plans, personal well-being benefits, and paid time off. KPMG also provides eligible employees with designated holiday breaks that do not require the use of paid time off. Benefits are subject to eligibility and may vary based on job classification, standard work hours, and years of service.
