Operational Security Specialist Internship (Data Center)

Amazon Web Services (AWS) is rapidly growing, and we are looking for an Operational Security Specialist Intern to join our expanding Data Center team. As a Data Center Operational Security Specialist Intern, you will drive operational security excellence within our Data Centers. You will be participating in our 12-week internship program at our London Data Centers.

Internship Period: May 10, 2027 - August 6, 2027

Responsibilities

As a Data Center Security Specialist Intern, you will be responsible for:

• Discovering and driving the resolution of physical security gaps and shortcomings within the Data Centers through constant vigilance.
• Interfacing with and directing vendors involved in new security construction, repairs, daily security operations, and planning.
• Extracting metrics and observing improvements using hard data.
• Suggesting improvements for electronic surveillance and access controls.
• Directing educational efforts to reduce false alarms among data center occupants.
• Writing and implementing security processes and procedures.
• Writing reports, creating presentations, and communicating the status of physical security operations to management.

A Day in the Life

A typical day starts by reviewing overnight incident logs and access requests, followed by joining senior staff on facility walkthroughs to inspect badge readers, biometric scanners, and surveillance systems. Between rounds, the intern helps plan for operational activity support and contributes to continuous improvement projects that enhance security processes. The day concludes with a summary of observations and lessons learned, steadily building the real-world expertise needed to protect critical infrastructure.

Basic Qualifications

• Currently enrolled student working towards a Bachelor’s degree.
• Expected graduation date between December 2027 and August 2028.
• Must be legally eligible to work in Singapore.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills in English.

Preferred Qualifications

• Knowledge of access control and video surveillance software applications (e.g., LENEL or C-cure).
• Interest in investigating accidents, thefts, disturbances, and discrepancies.
• Desire to work in a facility observing security gaps in physical barriers, security officer procedures, policies, surveillance equipment, and alarm points.
• Ability to drive awareness and process improvement campaigns.
• Knowledge of workflow ticketing, including the extraction of performance metrics.
• Ability to write detailed reports.
