Role details
Fixed Income Off-Cycle Intern
Department: Fixed Income | Location: Hong Kong | Duration: 6 Months (June to December 2027)
We have been helping clients plan and invest for their futures for over 50 years. From more than 25 locations around the world, we provide investment services and retirement expertise to everyone from central banks to private individuals. We are known for acting with integrity and thinking for the long term, fostering a welcoming, caring, and inclusive culture where people feel respected, trusted, and able to be themselves.
Our Off-Cycle Internship Programme offers you unrivalled access to information, experts, and industry leaders. Over the course of this 6-Month programme, you will learn how our team of analysts formulate investment theses to advise portfolio managers.
What You'll Be Doing
The Fixed Income team manages money for investors globally, with expertise spanning trading, portfolio management, credit, and quantitative research. This internship will provide hands-on experience in how we conduct investment decision-making related to credit.
You will gain experience across our credit research, investment directing, and trading departments by working on projects that introduce you to the basics of preparing financial analysis and investment reports.
Your responsibilities and opportunities include:
- Attending portfolio strategy meetings and learning directly from senior managers.
- Developing knowledge of financial modelling, research, risk exposure, and the commercial aspects of fixed income products.
- Working on live projects over the 6-month programme, making your own recommendations.
- Completing one or more projects and presenting your findings to a panel of senior colleagues.
We will provide comprehensive training on financial modelling, research, risk exposure, and the commercial aspects of our Fixed Income products. High promise and improvement during the programme may lead to an offer on our graduate programme.
The Difference You’ll Make
You will contribute to positive, meaningful work that directly impacts our clients, helping them invest and plan for the futures they desire, while providing invaluable support to your team.
How You’ll Be Supported
Your experience is supported at every level:
- Orientation: You will begin with a welcome and orientation to meet fellow interns and learn about our organization.
- Daily Learning: Learning occurs daily from experts and through tackling real projects.
- Mentorship: You will be supported by an assigned buddy and the wider investment team.
- Training: A company-wide Fidelity Induction will take place in the first week, followed by specific technical training in the second week, alongside bite-sized learning sessions throughout the internship.
- Resources: Virtual drop-in sessions with the Early Careers team are available for support and Q&A.
What We Look For
We welcome applications from all degree disciplines; what matters is who you are, not strictly what you have studied. Common criteria include:
- Academic Status: You must be in the penultimate year of your degree, graduating in 2028, and available to complete 6 months of full-time work.
- Personal Attributes: Highly driven, possessing intellectual curiosity, ambition, resilience, comfort with numeracy, and an absolute commitment to serving our clients’ best interests.
- Cognitive Skills:
- Thirst for Knowledge: Ability to collect and analyze diverse information and use it to make judgments on industry prospects.
- Analytical Skills: Ability to undertake complex research, interpret data, evaluate differing opinions, and form insightful judgments for wise investment decisions.
- Articulate & Persuasive: Tenacity and confidence to communicate investment judgments (buy/sell decisions) and justify your reasoning, even with imperfect information.
Language: As an international organization, proficiency in English is required.
Commitment to Inclusion: We are proud of our inclusive culture and encourage applications from the widest mix of talent, regardless of age, gender, ethnicity, sexual orientation, gender identity, or social background.
