Role Summary
BBVA Hong Kong is seeking a technically strong Data Scientist / Finance Data Analytics Specialist to join the Finance Department. This role will support Financial Planning and Analysis (FP&A), Accounting, and broader Finance functions by developing data extraction processes, automating internal and regulatory reporting, and building dashboards and analytical tools to improve decision-making and operational efficiency.
The ideal candidate will combine strong Python programming and data-processing capabilities with practical experience using dashboard development platforms such as MicroStrategy and Amazon QuickSight. The candidate should be comfortable working with large and diverse internal data sources, partnering with Finance and Accounting stakeholders, and translating business requirements into reliable analytical and automation solutions.
Key Responsibilities
- Extract, clean, transform, and consolidate data from multiple internal systems and data sources for Finance and Accounting use cases.
- Develop, enhance, and maintain automated data pipelines and reporting processes using Python and related tools.
- Build and maintain dashboards, reports, and visual analytics using platforms such as MicroStrategy, Amazon QuickSight, and other applicable business intelligence tools.
- Support the automation of internal management, financial, and regulatory reporting processes.
- Work closely with FP&A, Accounting, Finance, Operations, and IT teams to understand reporting requirements and deliver practical data solutions.
- Improve reporting accuracy, efficiency, transparency, and control through standardization and automation.
- Perform data validation, reconciliation, and quality checks to ensure the consistency and reliability of outputs.
- Prepare recurring and ad hoc analyses to support business planning, budgeting, forecasting, performance tracking, and management decision-making.
- Document data flows, methodologies, business logic, and technical processes to ensure continuity and control.
- Identify opportunities to streamline manual processes and reduce operational risk across Finance reporting activities.
- Support governance, audit, and control requirements related to data management and reporting processes.
- Assist with change implementation, user testing, and the ongoing enhancement of Finance data solutions.
Required Qualifications and Experience
- Bachelor’s degree in Data Science, Computer Science, Statistics, Mathematics, Finance, Accounting, Engineering, or a related quantitative discipline.
- Relevant experience in data analytics, business intelligence, financial data management, or reporting automation.
- Strong Python programming skills, particularly for data processing, automation, and reporting workflows.
- Experience building dashboards and reports using MicroStrategy, Amazon QuickSight, and/or similar business intelligence platforms.
- Experience working with structured data sources, SQL queries, databases, and large datasets.
- Strong analytical mindset with attention to detail and data quality.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience in banking or financial services.
- Familiarity with financial planning, accounting close processes, regulatory reporting, or management information systems (MIS) reporting.
- Knowledge of automation tools, APIs, scripting, or cloud-based analytics environments.
- Experience with data visualization design and dashboard best practices.
- Exposure to machine learning or predictive analytics; this is not the primary focus of the role.
