Program Overview

Zurich is accepting resumes for its 2027 Apprentice Program. The program launches in summer 2027, as early as June 21, and runs through July 19.

The innovative Insurance Apprentice Program allows participants to earn their first higher-education degree while gaining practical experience to launch a career in commercial insurance.

As part of the National Accounts team, responsibilities may include:

• Servicing accounts through the end-to-end process.
• Accessing and evaluating underwriting processes while implementing best practices.
• Following underwriter instructions related to policy rating and pricing.
• Reviewing the application of mandatory policy forms in relation to accounts.
• Resolving inquiries from brokers, underwriters, and internal customers.

Earn and Learn

This two-year program is offered in Philadelphia or New York City. It combines targeted coursework delivered virtually through Harper Community College in Palatine, Illinois, with relevant work rotations at Zurich North America’s Philadelphia or New York City offices.

The ideal candidate is pursuing a first associate degree and has completed minimal college coursework.

Apprentices who successfully complete the program will:

• Work in a paid, benefits-eligible, full-time position at Zurich.
• Work three and a half days and attend school one and a half days each week, with all 40 hours paid.
• Earn a tuition-free Associate in Applied Science degree in Business Administration with a concentration in Insurance through Harper College.
• Receive a Department of Labor Certificate of Apprenticeship.
• Develop credentials and skills for today’s evolving marketplace.

Basic Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent.
• Professional work experience is not required.
• Enrollment and validation as college-ready through Harper Community College Admissions. This is a separate application process that may take place concurrently with Zurich’s application process.

• One or more years of work experience, leadership in student activities, and/or significant volunteer community service.
• Interest in pursuing a career in the insurance industry.
• Ability to balance multiple priorities and meet work and school deadlines.
• Strong customer service skills.

• Ability to communicate with impact.
• Strong self-discipline and focus.
• Attention to detail.
• Ability to collaborate and work successfully in a team environment.
• Intermediate computer skills, specifically in Excel.

Compensation and Benefits

Pay is based on the role, location, skills, and experience. The national average hourly pay range for this position is $20.67, plus a short-term incentive bonus of 5%. Compensation may vary by location, and apprentices may also be eligible for bonuses and merit increases.
