2027 Guardian Summer Intern, Digital & Technology – Cybersecurity

Our 2027 Summer Internship Program is a paid 10-week learning experience in the daily environment of a thriving global financial services company. You will gain industry and organizational knowledge through daily business interactions and job assignments, participate in projects that directly affect our business, engage with senior leaders in conversational settings, and network with employees and interns across our offices. Team assignments are made mid-spring so you can be matched to real-time, business-critical needs.

Internship Dates: Thursday, May 27, 2027 – Friday, August 6, 2027.

Required Qualifications

  • Desire to be curious and analyze anomalies
  • Desire and passion to learn and grow in cybersecurity
  • Customer-focused orientation
  • Familiarity with operating systems, applications, and security concepts in at least two of the following domains:
    • Network/Perimeter Security, including Next-Gen firewalls, intrusion prevention systems, proxies, and Web Application Firewalls
    • Enterprise Endpoint (host-based) Security
    • DLP and Secure Data Transmission, Storage, and Access
  • Identity Access Management, including detection creation, forensic investigation or incident response, event log aggregation, searching, and analysis
  • Familiarity with security architectures and operating and troubleshooting principles of Microsoft Windows and Linux operating systems
  • Knowledge of the TCP/IP protocol stack, including routing, network address translation, TCP/UDP connectivity, and application-level protocols such as HTTP, SMTP, DNS, etc.
  • Familiarity with cybersecurity governance and compliance concepts, including security policies and standards, risk assessments, control testing, and security awareness activities
  • Interest in cybersecurity governance and compliance activities, including documenting processes, supporting risk assessments, tracking remediation actions, developing metrics, control monitoring, and assisting with compliance activities
  • Interest in developing detections to identify potentially malicious activities, and focus on investigating or understanding what happened and why
  • Excellent organization skills, highly detail-oriented, strong on workflow process, ability to manage and follow up on multiple competing priorities effectively

What You Will Do

  • Be a self-starter who enjoys “rolling up their sleeves and getting things done,” has high energy, a strong work ethic, the ability to work independently, and creativity
  • Monitor and analyze events from various SOC intake sources (SIEM, ticketing system, email, chat, phone), performing initial event discovery, triage, and response per Standard Operating Procedure, while applying knowledge of the modern threat landscape and industry best practices and standards in one or more of the following channels:
    • Incident Response & Digital Forensics
    • Security Orchestration & Automation (SOAR)
    • Identity Access Management (IAM)/User Behavior Analytics (UBA)
    • Data Loss Prevention (DLP)
    • Malware Response
    • Endpoint Threat & Intrusion Protection (HIPS) Response
    • Perimeter Threat & Intrusion Protection (IPS) Response
    • Security Control Health Monitoring and Response
  • Provide tier one operational and analysis support, supporting team efforts in resolution of incidents and outages for one or more of the following technologies:
    • Computer and Incident Response Monitoring
    • Security Incident Event Monitoring System (SIEM)
    • Firewall Appliance
    • Software-defined Network Security
    • Web Proxy
    • Web Application Firewall
    • Endpoint Security Protection
    • Data Loss Prevention
    • Application Security
  • Monitor and analyze security dashboards and process corresponding events
  • Partner with team members and other technology teams to handle and respond to internal customer issues, assist with problem analysis, and help ensure timely remediation of security issues in accordance with corporate policies and standards
  • Execute daily security technology administration functions
  • Support cybersecurity governance and compliance activities, including security assessments, control monitoring, policy and standards maintenance, metrics reporting, and remediation follow-up efforts
  • Work as part of a team to ensure Guardian customers’ data, technology platforms, and infrastructure are available and safeguarded from cyber threats
  • Learn about and stay current on emerging cyber threats, industry best practices, and applicable regulatory requirements
  • Work and learn from supportive leaders, mentors, and team members who will coach you as you develop your professional career

Eligibility

  • Applicants must be eligible to work in the U.S. without company sponsorship, now or in the future, for employment-based work authorization. F-1 visa holders with Optional Practical Training (OPT) who will require H-1B status, TNs, or current H-1B visa holders will not be considered. H1-B and green card sponsorship are not available for this position.
  • You must be available for the full program dates of the internship.

Salary Range

$20.00 – $35.00

The salary range reflected above is a good faith estimate of base pay for the primary location of the position. The salary for this position will ultimately be determined based on the education, experience, knowledge, and abilities of the successful candidate. In addition to salary, this role may also be eligible for annual, sales, or other incentive compensation.
