Internship Location

Internship positions are located at PIMCO’s Newport Beach, CA Headquarters or PIMCO’s New York City office.

Eligibility Requirements

You’re eligible to apply if you:

• Are pursuing an undergraduate degree.
• Can begin full-time employment from a PIMCO office between January 2028 and August 2028.
• Are enrolled at a university during the Fall 2027 semester (August 2027 – December 2027).
• Have a minimum 3.2 cumulative collegiate grade point average on a 4.0 scale (or the equivalent) at an accredited 4-year college or university.
• Are business proficient in English.

About the Role

Since launching its first opportunistic credit vehicles over 15 years ago, PIMCO has developed a significant presence in both alternative credit and private investment strategies. Our strategies include those that seek to identify value primarily in listed securities, relying on fundamental and capital structure analysis, and strategies that seek to privately finance the debt and equity needs of companies, asset holders, and origination platforms. We invest globally across commercial and residential real estate and mortgage credit, performing and distressed corporate debt, and specialty finance markets.

As an Alternatives Investment Operations Intern, you will support the smooth operation of PIMCO’s alternatives business across relevant funds and accounts. You will collaborate with key partners, including Portfolio Management, Legal, Compliance, Finance, and external service providers, to ensure the timely settlement and management of debt and private equity assets. You will also support transformative strategic initiatives led by the team.

Alternatives Investment Operations Responsibilities

• Trade Support & Settlement: Support trade execution, settlement, and lifecycle events for alternatives transactions across debt, private equity, real estate, and other non-traditional assets.
• Asset Onboarding & Data Integrity: Assist with the setup, maintenance, and validation of alternative investment assets, legal entities, counterparty details, and related reference data to support accurate downstream processing.
• Cross-Functional Coordination: Collaborate with Portfolio Management, Legal, Compliance, Finance, custodians, trustees, administrators, and other internal and external partners to resolve operational issues and support timely execution.
• Process Improvement & Controls: Contribute to initiatives that improve operational efficiency, strengthen controls, reduce risk, and enhance the scalability of PIMCO’s alternatives platform.

Internship Experience

• The PIMCO Internship is a 10-week program that runs from early June to mid-August, with the expectation that you will be available for the full duration of the program.
• During Week 1, you’ll participate in PIMCO Fundamentals Training, providing the skills, knowledge, and relationships to help you succeed.
• Alongside your colleagues, you’ll participate in PIMCO’s Global Month of Volunteering, developed to heighten the impact of our employees’ worldwide volunteer efforts.
• Join a variety of cross-divisional education, networking, and social events.
• Your supervisor, peer mentor, senior leaders, and team offer guidance and mentorship throughout the summer.
• You will gain hands-on experience with AI-powered tools from day one, with training and resources to help build future-ready skills and make an impact from the start.
• You’ll receive feedback at mid- and end-of-summer as part of a formal review process to keep you on the path to meeting your summer goals.

Interview Process

• After we receive your application, we will conduct an initial review of your resume.
• If you are selected to move forward, you will take a cognitive assessment and have the opportunity to showcase your interests, skills, and personality by completing a one-way video interview.
• Once you complete the assessment and one-way video interview, you will have a final round of live interviews via video conference. These interviews typically include both behavioral and technical questions.

Total Compensation (Overview)

PIMCO follows a total compensation approach when rewarding employees, which includes a base salary and a discretionary bonus. Base salary is the fixed component of compensation determined by core job responsibilities, relevant experience, internal level, and market factors. The discretionary bonus is used to award performance and is determined by company, business, team, and individual performance.

Hourly Rate: $43.26
