Position Overview

The Analyst will be an integral part of StepStone's Private Equity Secondaries investment team, which recently closed its fifth fund with $7.4 billion of total capital commitments. StepStone deploys billions of dollars per year in private equity secondary deals, including GP-led transactions, LP interests in private equity funds, and structured secondary deals (e.g., team spin-outs, direct investments, fund recapitalizations, and other special situations).

StepStone prides itself on a collegial atmosphere that encourages team-building initiatives and a collaborative approach. The role has exposure to all levels of the firm globally, from Partners to fellow Analysts, on a daily basis.

Responsibilities

Your main responsibility will be to contribute to all aspects of the secondary deal process, including:

  • Sourcing, screening, and conducting due diligence on European private equity secondary investments (both LP and GP-led transactions);
  • Interacting with management teams and fund managers to conduct in-depth asset and portfolio-level analysis;
  • Performing quantitative and qualitative research and financial modelling/analysis on companies and assets across stages, industries, and geographies;
  • Preparing and presenting due diligence materials and investment committee memos;
  • Constructing opinions around investment opportunities and communicating them effectively—verbally and in written materials—with the ability to defend recommendations in a team environment, including investment committee meetings;
  • Supporting negotiation/coordination of deal closing/structuring and post-close monitoring of existing investments;
  • Occasionally traveling for onsite due diligence and to sponsors’ annual meetings to monitor investments.

Requirements

  • Stellar academic record (university and GPA);
  • 1–2 years of private equity, top-tier investment banking and/or consulting experience;
  • Excellent quantitative skills, including financial modelling, analytical, and valuation skills to evaluate investment opportunities;
  • Strong sense of risk/reward trade-offs and the ability to make sound investment judgments;
  • Strong appetite for self-directed learning, particularly in AI/automation, with demonstrated hands-on experimentation preferred;
  • Self-starter with strong ability to think creatively and conduct research to solve problems or identify solutions;
  • Ability to communicate and present ideas effectively, both verbally and in writing;
  • Ability to multi-task with strong attention to detail;
  • Positive, team-oriented attitude with a desire to work on various projects;
  • Fluent (written and spoken) English; additional language skills are a plus.
