Internal Audit and Financial Advisory interns work with Protiviti’s clients, typically among the world’s leading companies. As an intern, you collaborate with the team to deliver high-quality, client-focused solutions to complex business problems. The internship is designed to develop versatile, knowledgeable future leaders through experience across different industries and projects.

Interns are encouraged to contribute ideas, learn through real work, and collaborate closely with others in a supportive, high-performing environment.

You will participate in Liftoff with Protiviti, an award-winning onboarding live-virtual experience with gamification, and attend The Intern Challenge, an experiential learning course to help you build confidence and connections as you transition into your role.

Throughout the internship, you may work across various industries and engage in internal initiatives. You will also get a preview of Foundations, Protiviti’s entry-level full-time career opportunity, which provides learning opportunities across business operations, consulting, data, relationship building, technology, and innovation.

For each project, you receive hands-on training and interact with leaders across the practice. Talent Managers assign project experiences that support career growth, your skills, and business needs. Advisors help you navigate challenges and celebrate milestones. You may also join committees, participate in employee network groups, and take part in social, civic, and networking activities.

Intern Focus Areas

Internal Audit and Financial Advisory interns are hired into one of two areas:

  • Business Process Audit and Advisory: Helps companies become more innovative by exploring business processes, identifying and mitigating emerging risks, developing creative solutions to complex business challenges, and encouraging best practices to enhance business functions. Business Process Auditors also help clients meet regulatory and compliance requirements and improve the efficiency and effectiveness of core business processes. Core internal audit services include managing risk, monitoring and testing controls, enhancing security, and improving corporate governance.

  • Technology Audit and Advisory: Helps companies navigate risks and opportunities in an increasingly complex technology landscape, including cybersecurity, AI risk, data governance, and cloud. Technology Auditors assess and advise across the full spectrum of how organizations use technology to protect and enhance enterprise value, including controls and regulatory compliance, privacy, software development, technology resilience, and technology governance.

Qualifications

  • Degree: Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in a relevant discipline (e.g., Accounting, Computer Science, Data Science, Engineering, Finance, Information Systems, Information Technology, Management Information Systems, or related fields).
  • Visa Status: Authorization to work in the United States for Protiviti without sponsorship now or in the future.
  • Graduation Status: Must be within one year of final graduation at the time of internship.
  • Demonstrated proficiency in applying AI tools to analytical and research tasks (e.g., Microsoft Copilot, GenAI, etc.).
  • Advanced verbal and written communication skills.
  • Ability to apply critical thinking and innovation to client engagements across various industries.
  • Technical proficiency aligning with the assigned capability area.

    • Experience with modern tools and technologies, including Microsoft Office Suite and data visualization tools like Power BI.
    • Entry-level proficiency in software development, best practices, and methodologies.
    • Interest in advanced analytics and automation technologies (e.g., Alteryx, MS Power Platform, Python).
    • Effective use of AI tools with strong human judgment in the loop—driving efficiency while elevating the quality of insights and outcomes for clients.

How We Work

Protiviti practices a hybrid model, combining in-person work with remote work to support excellent work, connection, and collaboration. The requirements vary by client, project, team, and other business factors. Work may be performed in local Protiviti offices and on client sites, which can include local or out-of-state travel depending on projects and client requests. Interns do not accrue company paid time off (Choice Time Off), and you are expected to be available to complete work in the designated location during business hours for the entire duration of the internship.

Intern Compensation

The hourly rate for this position is $28/hr–$38/hr.
