Internship Program Overview
Our Interns & Co-ops are our entry-level talent pipeline for GF across the globe. Our goal is to provide students with meaningful work experience that will equip them with the skills to embark on a career in the fast-paced and growing semiconductor industry after graduation. As an intern at GF, you’ll experience one-on-one mentorship, work assignments that prioritize your growth and potential, professional development opportunities, and the chance to network with executives.
Summary of Role
The Automation Intern will support the Facility Engineering team in understanding facility operations, documenting workflows, and identifying opportunities for digitalization and automation. The intern will gain exposure to facility utility systems, maintenance practices, data analytics, and operational excellence initiatives while contributing to process improvement projects that enhance productivity and efficiency.
Essential Responsibilities
- Learn the fundamentals of Facility Engineering operations and utility systems.
- Participate in facility walkthroughs and system familiarization sessions.
- Observe and document daily operational and maintenance activities (e.g., mechanical domain).
- Map current workflows and identify manual processes.
- Analyze data from facility systems, maintenance records, and operational reports.
- Support development of dashboards, reports, and automation solutions.
- Work with engineers and technicians to understand operational challenges.
- Prepare and present recommendations for process improvements and automation.
Primary Internship Deliverable
- Conduct a comprehensive study of manual activities performed within Facilities.
- Document at least 20–30 recurring manual processes.
- Assess automation feasibility, effort, and potential benefits.
- Prepare a final Automation Opportunity Assessment Report.
- Present findings and recommendations to Facility Engineering leadership.
Required Qualifications
- Education: Currently pursuing a degree in Engineering (Mechanical, Electrical, Industrial, Automation, Mechatronics, Facilities Management, Data Analytics or related field) through an accredited degree program during the time of internship.
- Basic proficiency in Microsoft Office applications.
- Must be in good academic standing.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
- Good written and verbal communication skills.
- Ability to work independently and within a team environment.
- Ability to work at least 40 hours per week during the internship.
Preferred Qualifications
- Exposure to Power BI, Power Automate, SharePoint, or similar digital tools.
- Basic knowledge of data analysis and visualization.
- Interest in automation, digital transformation, or smart facilities.
- Familiarity with programming or scripting tools (Python, SQL, VBA, etc.).
- Experience with process mapping or continuous improvement projects.
