About Small Cap Investment Banking

The Small Cap Investment Banking team was founded in 2026 and focuses on companies valued between $100 million and $500 million in enterprise value. Initially, the team will concentrate on M&A opportunities in the business services, consumer and retail, and diversified industries verticals. Analysts will work in New York and support a broader team of bankers across New York, Los Angeles, Dallas, Chicago, and Atlanta.

Job Summary

As an Analyst on the Small Cap Investment Banking team within the Investment Banking Division, you will be a key player in the execution of the firm’s business. You will work with expert professionals at the heart of a leading global investment bank, supported by a best-in-class training program, hands-on learning opportunities, continuous mentoring and feedback, and development opportunities.

You will use your related experience to contribute to the firm’s M&A execution and capital-raising capabilities while helping build J.P. Morgan’s franchise and reputation in the marketplace. Over time, you will develop strong functional skills across major areas of investment banking and work toward becoming a senior client executive capable of generating and executing your own transactions.

Job Responsibilities

  • Execute transactions by supporting due diligence, document preparation, negotiations, and liaising with relevant counterparts at the client and other advisers (e.g., accounting, legal).
  • Work with J.P. Morgan product and sector teams.
  • Build and use complex financial models, completing valuation and analytical exercises.
  • Draft presentation materials, including management presentations, board materials, memorandums, and other materials for M&A, capital markets transactions, and strategic client dialogue.
  • Stay current on key market developments and develop knowledge of target clients and relevant market dynamics.

Required Qualifications, Capabilities, and Skills

  • 1–3 years of work experience in an investment banking front office or related role, with a focus on M&A.
  • Strong accounting, finance, quantitative, and business writing skills.
  • Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Economics, Business Administration, or a related field.
  • Understanding of the transaction cycle and the steps in the process, with an execution-oriented approach.
  • Ability to work independently on challenging tasks while maintaining attention to detail.
  • Strong communication skills, with the ability to effectively interact with senior professionals, clients, and key stakeholders across lines of business.
