Role Overview

This position provides support to senior management and other business stakeholders for the U.S. FP&A (“Financial Planning and Analytics”) Team within the Finance & Strategic Planning Department, Americas Division (“FSPDAD”). U.S. FP&A reports directly to the U.S. Chief Financial Officer (“U.S. CFO”). This function requires strong influencing and negotiation skills and offers the opportunity to demonstrate thought leadership to senior management.

Scope of responsibility includes driving execution and management of key initiatives, including financial and management reporting, flash and actuals reporting, budgeting, and producing standard management reports and presentations, as well as ad-hoc analysis for the U.S. CFO and other senior stakeholders.

Responsibilities

  • Drive management of key strategic initiatives within the U.S. CFO office, including project execution.
  • Provide timely and relevant updates and communications of key messages to senior stakeholders.
  • Produce recurring and ad-hoc packages for the U.S. CFO and other key stakeholders.
  • Assist with key strategic initiatives by analyzing and reviewing organization financial performance through the collection, analysis, and reporting of financial data.
  • Support senior business leaders with financial insights, including reviewing financial results and peer comparables, and performing what-if analysis regarding new initiatives and/or new business.
  • Collaborate to develop forecasting processes that enable entity, business, and regional views of both local and global financial resource consumption and constraints.
  • Liaise with key business contacts to gather, analyze, and provide an overall narrative of key business drivers and performance metrics to senior management.
  • Build models and metrics to drive business decisions and guide strategic decision-making by senior management.
  • Innovate and improve existing management reporting processes and build new processes where none exist.

Qualifications and Skills

  • 1–3 years of working experience in the financial industry in Finance, Consulting, or FP&A departments.
  • Ability to manage multiple initiatives simultaneously and plan/prioritize appropriately.
  • Ability to lead and drive initiatives through creative thinking and pragmatism.
  • Strong attention to detail and ability to independently work across functional groups, including front/middle/back office functions.
  • Well-developed listening skills and ability to engage at the senior management level.
  • Strong influencing skills, with the ability to mediate discussions and draw consensus.
  • Outstanding analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Proficiency with Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Power BI, and QlikView, with the ability to quickly learn new programs and applications.
  • Collaborative and demonstrated ability to manage a team in a dynamic environment.

Compensation and Benefits

The anticipated salary range for this role is between $65,000.00 and $85,000.00. The specific salary offered to an applicant will be based on their individual qualifications, experiences, and an analysis of the current compensation paid in their geography and the market for similar roles at the time of hire. The role may also be eligible for an annual discretionary incentive award. In addition to cash compensation, SMBC offers a competitive portfolio of benefits to its employees.

Work Model and Accessibility

SMBC employees participate in a Hybrid workforce model that provides employees with an opportunity to work from home, as well as from an SMBC office. SMBC requires that employees live within a reasonable commuting distance of their office location.
