Role details

Overview

Palantir builds the world’s leading software for data-driven decisions and operations. By bringing the right data to the people who need it, our platforms empower partners to develop lifesaving drugs, forecast supply chain disruptions, locate missing children, and more.

The Role

Forward Deployed Infrastructure Engineers (FDIEs) build, operate, and maintain the infrastructure that powers Palantir’s platforms and production deployments. As an FDIE intern, you’ll work alongside full-time FDIEs to deploy and operate Palantir software across real production environments, automate manual processes, and develop novel solutions to infrastructure challenges using tools like Foundry and Apollo. Every day looks different — you might debug a distributed systems issue, build automation to replace a manual runbook, or design infrastructure improvements that scale across multiple deployments. You’ll be treated as a full member of the team, with real ownership over the work you take on.

Core Responsibilities

As an FDIE intern, your responsibilities resemble those at a small startup, with the resources, stability, and mentorship of an established tech company. You’ll work in small teams with minimal supervision and own end-to-end execution of real infrastructure projects. Your day might involve:

  • Deploying and operating Palantir software across production environments, including monitoring, alerting, configuration management, and upgrades
  • Debugging, improving, and optimizing Palantir’s services and infrastructure for long-term reliability and scalability
  • Reducing manual operations by automating workflows, processes, and runbooks
  • Developing novel solutions in Palantir’s Foundry and Apollo platforms to address infrastructure challenges

Our Principles

  • Impact: Tackle meaningful projects that change the world for the better.
  • Ownership: See projects through from start to finish and empower team members to think independently.
  • Collaboration: Work with diverse teams across engineers, product teams, and forward-deployed software engineers.
  • Growth: Encourage experiential learning, seek new challenges, and share knowledge.

What We Value

  • Ability to continuously learn, work independently, and make decisions with minimal direction
  • Confidence troubleshooting complex systems using observability tools and service logs
  • Experience with large-scale production systems and technologies (load balancing, monitoring, distributed systems, configuration management)
  • Ability to identify and automate highly manual tasks to drive ongoing improvements
  • Creativity in solving technical problems using cloud infrastructure, storage systems, and other tooling
  • Ability to collaborate across technical and non-technical teammates in a dynamic environment

What We Require

  • Active US security clearance, or eligibility and willingness to obtain one prior to start of internship
  • Engineering background, preferably in Computer Science, Mathematics, Software Engineering, Physics, or Data Science
  • Strong proficiency in one or more programming languages (Python, Java, Go, C++, TypeScript/JavaScript, or similar)
  • Planning to graduate in 2028; this will be your final internship before graduating
