STRATEGIC BUSINESS UNIT DESCRIPTION

Global Derivatives & FICC Technology. This group provides technology solutions to the CIBC Capital Markets derivatives, fixed income and currency trading businesses.

JOB PURPOSE

This role is for a .NET developer to work on CIBC’s intraday risk reporting platform. The role involves development of new features, technical analysis of the applications running on the grid, troubleshooting, post-mortem and remediation of production issues.

KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES

  • Developer on the Iris team
  • Work with the development team to deliver features & bug fixes for the application
  • Collaborate with Iris clients (other development teams) to efficiently manage requests & workload
  • Develop a deep understanding of the app and the contexts in which it is used by users
  • Maintain a high degree of code quality across the application stack
  • Document key components and features to ensure knowledge transfer and maintainability
  • Attend meetings with key stakeholders to understand requirements
  • Ensure modern development practices are adopted
  • Actively track performance metrics and develop solutions to address issues

CROSS-FUNCTIONAL RELATIONSHIPS

  • This role requires working closely with QA team to coordinate testing and release management
  • Work with Application Support for 2nd line production incident support
  • Collaborate with other GDT dev teams (e.g., XTrader, Risk Technology, CMDA) to manage integrations
  • May require communication with end users to understand data usage
  • Coordinate with Technology management teams to ensure shared accountability for the Technology strategy and objectives

  • As a key contributor to the business unit, have the authority to recommend changes to business processes to enhance operational efficiency and effectiveness

JOB DIMENSIONS

  • Resolving complex technical issues and/or engaging external expertise as needed to ensure resolution; gather information from multiple sources to determine root cause
  • Refine business requirements, convert to technical requirements, and devise solutions while staying within security/audit guidelines and industry best practices
  • Understand various design patterns for new environments and for unique applications
  • Interact with project team functions to analyze project and technical risk
  • Address issues outside normal business processes, including novel challenges
  • Remain adaptable to changing client requests
  • Deliver solutions across multiple initiatives with dependencies and changing timelines, with limited resources

KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS

  • Strong C# and .NET development skills
  • Familiar with multi-threading and asynchronous programming
  • Comfortable with basic SQL querying (e.g., T-SQL) and SQL Server design principles
  • Scripting (PowerShell)
  • Comfortable with AI tools (e.g., GitHub Copilot)
  • Working knowledge of cloud services desirable (Azure & AWS)
  • Git, GitHub, GitHub Actions
  • Familiarity with JavaScript, Angular, AWS Batch, Azure Batch
  • Keen to learn new technologies; curious about how approaches solve problems
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills
  • Ability to write technical documentation for use by Development, Support & QA teams
