External Investing Group (XIG)

XIG manages globally diversified programs, targeted sector-specific strategies, customized portfolios, and a range of advisory services. Our investors access opportunities through new fund commitments, fund-of-fund investments, strategic partnerships, secondary-market investments, co-investments, and seed-capital investments. With over 400 professionals across 11 offices, XIG provides manager diligence, portfolio construction, risk management, and liquidity solutions to investors, drawing on Goldman Sachs’ market insights and risk management expertise. We extend these capabilities to sovereign wealth funds, pension plans, governments, financial institutions, endowments, foundations, and family offices, investing or advising on over $500 billion of alternative investments, public equity strategies, and fixed income strategies.

XIG Hedge Funds

The XIG hedge fund team sources, examines, and invests in leading external hedge fund managers. The team has been active since 1969 and manages over $32 billion across hedge fund portfolios, customized solutions, and advisory relationships. Strategies include fundamental equity long/short, credit, event-driven, macro, CTAs, multi-strategy, and quantitative funds. Investors include public and corporate pensions, financial institutions, endowments, foundations, and high net worth individuals. The group maintains deep, longstanding relationships with institutional hedge fund investors and benefits from Goldman Sachs’ relationships with ultra-high-net-worth individuals. Our hedge fund portfolios have a long history dating back to 1969, making us one of the most experienced hedge fund advisors in the industry.

Alternatives Capital Formation (ACF)

ACF manages capital raising and strategy for alternative investments including private equity, private credit, real estate, infrastructure, growth equity, sustainability, secondaries, GP stakes, and hedge funds / liquid alternatives. Within ACF, team members work within product verticals and collaborate across strategies to identify portfolio-wide solutions. They partner with other teams within ACF and across CSG, investing teams, and wealth management teams. Professional development initiatives provide opportunities to enhance expertise across alternative investment products and to sharpen market knowledge from industry experts investing across the Firm. This specific ACF role sits with XIG, focused on hedge funds.

Responsibilities

  • As a junior product specialist, assist senior team members in driving commercial strategy, capital formation, and client engagement. Support the launch, management, and ongoing business development for various funds/products across regions and client channels.
  • Support content development for client and prospect presentations, internal governance, RFPs, and other investment-related analyses.
  • Prepare regular quantitative and qualitative market views and platform offerings.
  • Support the XIG ACF team’s broader initiatives to enhance client service, data efficiency, and infrastructure development.

Qualifications

  • 1–3 years in a similar or related role.
  • Interest in capital formation and business development.
  • Strong interest in capital markets, asset management, and understanding of alternative investments.
  • Excellent analytical, presentation, communication, and interpersonal skills.
  • Strong organizational skills to manage a high volume of quality work within tight timeframes, often across multiple projects.
  • Attention to detail and a track record of delivering high accuracy.
  • Proficiency in Excel, PowerPoint, and Word, with adaptability to other software tools.
  • Strong communication skills with the ability to convey ideas effectively.
  • Fluency in English; Chinese language skills (Mandarin and Cantonese) are a strong plus.
