Role details
About the Position
We are seeking quantitative researchers to develop models, strategies, and systems for pricing and trading financial instruments. Our advanced proprietary trading models are central to our operations, enabling us to identify profitable opportunities across hundreds of thousands of financial products daily, in over 200 trading venues worldwide.
Our success is based on a deep understanding of the markets, collaboration between researchers and traders, and a commitment to continuously challenge the status quo. At Jane Street, you will work with a close-knit team, utilizing petabytes of data, a computing cluster with hundreds of thousands of cores, and a growing GPU cluster containing thousands of A/H100s to develop trading strategies in dynamic, adversarial markets. Signals are small; noise is high.
We do not believe in one-size-fits-all modeling solutions; we embrace a variety of statistical and machine learning techniques, from linear models to deep learning, depending on the problem. Your ability to explore new areas of data analysis while maintaining focus on the ultimate goal will be essential.
At Jane Street, we blur the lines between trading and research, fostering a fluid environment where teams work closely to solve complex problems. Successful researchers are driven by curiosity about how their work fits into the broader trading operations and how to translate findings into actionable strategies.
If you have never considered a career in finance, you are not alone. Many of us started in the same position. If you have a curious mind, a collaborative spirit, and a passion for solving interesting problems, you will fit right in.

- Able to apply logical and mathematical thinking to diverse problems
- Intellectually curious—eager to ask questions, admit mistakes, and learn new things
- A strong programmer comfortable with Python
- An open-minded thinker and precise communicator who enjoys collaborating with colleagues from various backgrounds and expertise
- PhD or other research experience is a plus
