Role details
About the Program
Our goal is to give you a real sense of what it’s like to work at Jane Street full time. Over the course of your internship, you will explore ways to approach and solve exciting problems within your field of interest through engaging classes, interactive sessions, and group discussions. You will then have the opportunity to apply those lessons in practical projects.
As an intern, you will be paired with full-time employees who act as mentors, collaborating with you on real-world projects that are essential to our work. When not working on your project, you will have access to office amenities, physical and virtual educational resources, guest speakers, social events, and opportunities to engage with the aspects of our work that interest you most.
If you have never considered a career in finance, you are not alone. Many of us were in the same position before joining Jane Street. If you have a curious mind, a collaborative spirit, and a passion for solving interesting problems, you will fit right in.
About the Position
This is not a typical IT internship involving routine tasks like making copies or rebooting computers. You will be trained as a member of our full-time IT Operations Engineering team, responsible for supporting, configuring, and operating multiple systems across our technology stacks, including desktop engineering, network, and various application platforms.
Your hands-on responsibilities may include responding to technology support requests, building and configuring Windows and Linux devices, supporting our Windows domain infrastructure, monitoring and maintaining systems, and assisting with projects to optimize workflows using tools such as PowerShell.
Our IT interns are friendly, collaborative problem-solvers who enjoy helping others. They troubleshoot in real time, listen patiently to end users, and are comfortable asking questions and admitting mistakes. This internship provides a strong introduction to Jane Street and our approach to problem-solving across teams. Successful interns are often invited to return for full-time positions after graduation.
About You
We do not expect you to have a background in finance or any specific field. We value how you think and learn more than what you currently know. You should be:
- Graduating in 2026 or 2027
- Interested in learning about networking, programming, or system administration
- Eager to help people and solve problems; able to communicate clearly and respectfully
- A reliable team player with a “no job too small” attitude
- Comfortable working in a fast-paced environment
- Humble and unafraid to ask questions and admit mistakes
- Able to deconstruct technical problems and willing to take a hands-on approach to diagnose, troubleshoot, and resolve issues at the desktop, server, and network levels
- Able to develop and maintain technical documentation
- Fluent in English
The following skills are a plus but not required, as the role includes on-the-job technical training:
- Familiarity with scripting languages such as PowerShell or Bash
- Knowledge of computer hardware components and their interactions
- Familiarity with the Windows operating system and productivity tools such as Microsoft Excel and Word
Please note: Jane Street will provide flights to and from Hong Kong as well as accommodation for the duration of the program.
