Summer College Internship Program

The Summer College Internship Program is a 10-week paid internship experience designed for undergraduate and graduate students. This program offers the opportunity to participate in development workshops, network with company professionals, and contribute to meaningful projects while receiving mentorship from managers throughout the summer.

Interns can participate in various skills-based tracks, including Business Administration, Information Technology, Actuarial, Human Resources, Analytics & Data, Communications, Finance, Marketing & Sales, Project Management, Clinical Studies, Customer Experience, Digital Operations, and other non-technical or technical degree programs.

Internship Details

  • This is a paid 10-week internship, running from the first Monday in June to the second Friday in August (up to 40 hours per week).
  • Interns may be placed in either a technical or a non-technical area.
  • Development workshops are provided to facilitate the transition from academic study to the corporate environment.
  • Housing is not provided as part of this program.

Essential Accountabilities

Specific duties vary by assignment and divisional callout, but overall responsibilities include:

  • Working on the primary project related to the laptop refresh program, which involves preparing laptops in the Desktop Lab in Syracuse (Imaging, installing software, and assisting users with data transfer). This includes scheduling appointments with Syracuse region employees. The intern will work with the Syracuse Desktop Team but will largely operate independently after training.
  • Supporting key strategic projects under the guidance of a mentor.
  • Completing work assignments based on departmental priorities, business needs, and individual qualifications.
  • Performing a mix of technical and non-technical tasks across a broad range of business projects.
  • Creating and delivering presentations upon completion of the internship.
  • Consistently demonstrating high integrity by supporting the company's mission and values, adhering to the Corporate Code of Conduct, and upholding the company's core values.
  • Maintaining the confidentiality and protection of member privacy in accordance with company policies.
  • Maintaining regular and reliable attendance.
  • Performing other functions as assigned by management.

Minimum Qualifications

  • High School diploma along with proof of continuous college enrollment (enrolled in a full-time undergraduate or graduate degree program).
  • Must be in good academic standing.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to interact with technical and non-technical audiences and interface with staff at all company levels.
  • Ability to multitask in a fast-paced environment while maintaining strong attention to detail and delivering high-quality work.
  • Ability to work well in a team and establish good working relationships with peers.
  • Demonstrates strong organizational, analytical, problem-solving, and prioritization skills.
  • Proactive approach to work, displaying creativity and flexibility in completing assigned tasks.
  • Commitment to continuous improvement of skills and team functioning.
  • Self-motivated and able to work independently, as well as within intra- and inter-departmental teams as needed.
  • Experience with Microsoft Office Suite and using a desktop computer in a professional environment.
  • Desired Majors/Degree Programs: Computing Sciences & Information Technology (e.g., Computer Science, Software Engineering, IT Networking, Cybersecurity, etc.) or similar degree programs (specific majors determined by the manager).
  • Preferred Experience (Not Required): Strong organizational skills are essential for coordinating and scheduling with end-users. Excellent communication skills are also important due to regular meetings with all organizational levels. Prior experience in a technical support role (like a college Help Desk) is a plus.

Physical Requirements

  • Ability to work while sitting and/or standing at a workstation using a computer, keyboard, mouse, and/or phone for three or more hours at a time.
  • Ability to travel across the Health Plan service region for meetings and/or training courses as needed.

Compensation and Employment Details

Compensation Range (Level I): Minimum $18.00 - Maximum $20.00

The indicated salary range represents the minimum and maximum for this position. Actual salary will vary based on factors including, but not limited to, budget availability, prior experience, knowledge, skill, and education as they relate to the minimum qualifications, in addition to internal equity. The posted range is one component of the total rewards package, which may also include group health/dental insurance, retirement plans, wellness programs, paid time off, and holidays.
