About Global Merchant & Network Services (GMNS)

Global Merchant & Network Services brings together American Express’ merchant and network-related businesses. This includes managing relationships across the globe with millions of merchants who accept American Express, as well as partners in countries and territories that deliver card acceptance, issuance, and innovation.

American Express has two core customer types: Card Members who use our cards to make purchases, and businesses that accept them. Within GMNS, we primarily focus on businesses that accept our cards. We bring together the businesses that manage and evolve the company’s relationships with millions of merchants around the world that accept American Express, along with the team that runs the company’s payment network and manages bank partnerships globally.

GMNS is expanding global acceptance of our cards, driving greater usage of our network, leveraging modern capabilities to capture broader revenue streams, and driving innovation both in-house and with partners.

• We operate in 198 countries and territories
• We have 140+ million cards in force, performing 12 billion transactions per year and contributing more than $1.5 trillion in network volume
• We have 190+ partners who either issue cards on our network and/or sign new businesses to accept Amex on our behalf

GMNS Product

GMNS Product owns the long-term strategy, product development, delivery, and operations of the American Express Network and Acquirer products and capabilities. This enables payments across our proprietary business and 190+ partners (including GNS partners, merchants, and third-party processors) spanning 200+ countries.
