Backend Software Engineer I

Job Description

foodpanda, part of the Delivery Hero Group, is seeking a Junior Backend Software Engineer to join our Transaction domain and regional Product team in Singapore. You will collaborate with a highly skilled international team to drive innovation across the vendor journey, covering everything from cart and checkout to the post-order experience.

Responsibilities

• Design and implement features used across the global platform.
• Collaborate with cross-functional, international teams to manage project priorities, deadlines, and deliverables, delivering holistic solutions.
• Design and evolve system architecture to meet current needs and support future growth and technologies.
• Enforce coding standards and conduct thorough code reviews to maintain a high-quality codebase.
• Implement automated testing frameworks to catch bugs early and ensure software reliability.
• Apply knowledge of cloud environments, CI/CD, testing, and validation.
• Independently apply design patterns and best practices in reliability management (resiliency, autoscaling, monitoring, and alerting).
• Identify and resolve complex technical issues in software and infrastructure, continuously optimizing for performance and scalability.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science or related field, or equivalent practical experience.
• Minimum 1 year of working experience in backend development.
• Practical experience with software architecture, design patterns, design principles, algorithms, and automated tests (unit, integration, and functional).
• Familiarity with microservices architecture and patterns (a strong plus).
• Solid understanding of relational and distributed databases, including normal forms, ACID, isolation levels, index concepts, and distributed database concepts.
• Experience with the software development lifecycle and collaboration within cross-functional, international agile teams.
• Strong communication skills in English (written and verbal) and the ability to collaborate with diverse stakeholders.
