You will join a diverse team of software, hardware, and network engineers, supply chain specialists, security experts, operations managers, and other vital roles. You will collaborate across AWS to deliver high safety and security standards while providing seemingly infinite capacity at the lowest possible cost for customers. You’ll also work in an inclusive culture that welcomes bold ideas and empowers you to own them to completion.
The Data Center Engineering Operations (DCEO) Team is the backbone of AWS, supporting the rapid growth of AWS business and customers 24x7. The team maintains the physical critical facility infrastructure of AWS and ensures operational performance standards across safety, security, availability, productivity, capacity, efficiency, and cost.
Key Responsibilities

- Act as the interface with on-site colocation providers and their contractors to ensure all work complies with established practices, procedures, and local legislation.
- Monitor colocation suppliers, conduct routine maintenance, and respond to emergency services for critical systems including switchgear, generators, UPS systems, power distribution equipment, chillers, cooling towers, computer room air handlers, and building monitoring systems.
- Generate change management requests and incident management tickets for data center facilities.
- Perform non-office on-call responsibilities and respond promptly to emergency situations or incidents such as power failures or natural disasters; review and refine established Emergency Operations Procedures.
- Work with colocation providers and contractors to resolve infrastructure engineering issues and conduct root cause analysis for operational issues.
- Participate in improvements to enhance data center safety, security, and availability.
- Facilitate rack installation and conduct rack space and power/cooling assessments.
A Day in the Life
In addition to operational responsibilities, you will execute small-to-medium impacting projects from conception to completion. These projects include moderate independent work as well as collaboration with external support groups such as engineering, automation, processing, and finance in controlled environments. You will create and deliver key milestones, obtain and track quotes for necessary costs, and document project results. The goals of these projects are to drive innovation and resiliency while reducing operational costs in the facilities.
Additional Responsibilities
- Participate in 7x24 operations with flexibility for schedule changes based on specific site needs; shifts can be up to 12 hours and may rotate on a predefined schedule.
- Provide timely escalation for all facilities-related issues within the data center.
- Perform first-line troubleshooting and reporting of facility and high-criticality events within service level agreement (SLA) requirements.
- Provide assistance to junior and peer EOTs.
- Oversee third-party vendors to ensure all work complies with established safety protocols, best practices, and local legislation.
- Use administrative tools for change management, ticketing, and asset management.
- Support project, stakeholder team, and vendor activities.
- Oversee all commissioning activities.
- Complete assigned project tasks and manage associated reporting metrics.
- Engage supporting teams for issue resolution.
- Ensure compliance with AWS data center safety and security protocols.
- Participate in day-to-day data center facility operations, including facility change management.
- Manage vendor relationships and provide technical consultation.
- Review emergency and standard operating procedures.
