Internship Program Overview

Virtu’s internship program offers students an opportunity to learn about the firm and the world’s financial markets. The program includes a company-curated global training week, real-world development projects, and social events to help you connect with our team and culture.

• Location: Austin, New York
• Dates: 10-week program, starting June 7, 2027 – August 13, 2027 (flexibility if needed)
• Training: Ongoing training throughout the summer and a training week held in New York or Austin
• Projects: Real problems to solve throughout the program; interns work from a list of projects with several senior mentors throughout the summer
• Perks (varies by location): Onsite gym & workout classes, onsite barista, weekly happy hours/social events, breakfast & lunch, transportation

Role Responsibilities

Our development team is a highly talented group of versatile software engineers responsible for designing, developing, and optimizing proprietary, low-latency trading systems and proprietary trading algorithms. The team also creates powerful trading tools that support all stages of our high-performance system deployed in financial marketplaces around the world.

As an intern, you will complete a variety of challenging development projects and work alongside senior engineers to improve scalability, performance, and efficiency of our cutting-edge trading systems. This is a rare opportunity to learn how to design and architect a trading system for scale and to support the massive amounts of data flowing through Virtu’s trading systems daily.

Requirements

• Rising juniors, or students expected to be ready for full-time employment between December 2026 – June 2027
• Excellent academic background in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, or a related field
• Strong programming skills in Python and either Java or C++
• Experience with JavaScript is a plus
• Some lower-level programming experience is a plus, but not required
• Outstanding quantitative problem-solving skills and mathematical aptitude
• Comfort working across a wide variety of projects (frontend/backend, different programming languages)
• A “physicalizer”: identifies issues and creates solutions without rigid direction or fanfare
• Highly motivated and tenacious, with proven ability to take initiative and work independently and within a team
• Team player with an authentic, genuine approach and ability to work toward collective goals

After applicants pass an initial resume screening, an online programming test will be emailed via HackerRank. Upon review, we will reach out to arrange next steps.

Salary Range: $5,000 – $5,800 weekly (salary range is exclusive of sign-on bonuses, housing, meals, benefits, or any other forms of compensation)
