About Civica

Civica creates software that helps deliver critical services for citizens around the world. From local government to education, health, and care, over 5,000 public bodies across the globe use our software to provide essential services to over 100 million citizens.

Our aspiration is to be a GovTech champion everywhere we work—supporting the needs of citizens and those who serve them every day. Building on 21 years of continuous growth and success, we are at a pivotal point in our journey to realise that aspiration.

Legal Counsel

We are looking for a Legal Counsel to join Civica’s growing legal team, supporting a broad range of commercial, intellectual property, technology, and data protection matters across the business. This is an outstanding opportunity for a lawyer with 1–4 years PQE who enjoys variety, wants exposure to senior stakeholders, and is excited by the pace and opportunity that comes with a business undergoing significant transformation.

Reporting directly to our Group Legal Director, you will receive exceptional mentoring and support while also being trusted to take ownership of your own work. The role offers the best of both worlds: learning from experienced legal leaders while developing the autonomy and commercial judgement expected of a successful in-house lawyer.

As a private equity-backed global GovTech business, Civica continues to invest heavily in growth, innovation, and transformation. You will play an important role in supporting a business that serves customers across the UK and APAC, giving you international exposure while remaining predominantly UK-focused.

Key Responsibilities

  • Draft, review, and negotiate a wide range of commercial, technology, licensing, and framework agreements.
  • Advise on intellectual property matters, including licensing, trademarks, and brand protection.
  • Support data protection, compliance, and incident management across the business.
  • Partner with stakeholders across the UK, Australia, and India to provide pragmatic, commercially focused legal advice.
  • Contribute to business-critical projects, including technology transformation, procurement, corporate governance, and M&A activity.

Qualifications & Experience

  • Qualified Solicitor in England & Wales with 1–4 years’ PQE.
  • Strong experience in commercial contracts, ideally gained within a technology-focused or commercial practice.
  • Exposure to intellectual property and data protection matters, with experience advising on licensing arrangements highly desirable.
  • Training gained within a leading City, national, or international law firm; in-house experience is advantageous but not essential.
  • Commercially minded, with the ability to balance legal risk and business objectives.
  • Confident communicator who can translate complex legal issues into clear, pragmatic advice for a range of stakeholders.
  • Thrives in a fast-paced, evolving environment and enjoys working collaboratively across the business.
