Role details
Overview
We’re looking for an Account Manager to join our UK team. Temper is utilised by hundreds of SME businesses across the UK to find flexible staff and manage their changing needs. You will be responsible for managing and growing your own portfolio across our broad base of Hospitality and Retail businesses. You’ll ensure they have the best possible experience using Temper while maximizing their usage — we’re looking for an account manager who knows how to grow accounts, not just keep them happy.
You don’t need a purely account management background to be considered for this role; attitude and work ethic come first. We’re primarily looking for someone who is excited by our work, highly organized, and knows how to prioritise. You’ll have a large portfolio to manage and you’ll decide what that looks like, requiring ingenuity, organisation, and prioritisation. You might have a background in operations, sales, or account management — we’re open to anything as long as you understand our goals and mindset.
You’ll be actively onboarding new clients in collaboration with our business development team, as well as continuously nurturing and hunting for growth opportunities within your portfolio — in short, you’re both a hunter and a farmer. Take responsibility for discovering opportunities and growing your portfolio full of possibilities. This is a role for someone who wants to be an integral part of a growing business and thrives on driving their portfolio’s success.
In short? We’re looking for someone with hyper-strong organisational skills who builds genuine, trusting relationships with their clients whilst also challenging them to grow with Temper.
What you’ll do on a day to day
- Manage your portfolio and expand your client base: build strong professional relationships and stay informed about market developments to capitalize on opportunities and challenges.
- Proactively seek opportunities to take your portfolio to the next level — identify growth opportunities that your clients may not see.
- Understand the needs of the customer: position yourself as a staffing and workforce expert, identify and prioritise customer needs, and guide conversations toward successful outcomes.
- Coordinate with the Marketplace Success Team to ensure Temper meets your clients’ needs, including planning for longer-term projects. You’ll always be looking ahead.
Who you are / Requirements
- 1–4 years of relevant commercial experience in account management, operations, or sales.
- Experience managing a long-tail or large portfolio of SMEs — ideally in a marketplace environment.
- Well-organised with self-discipline.
- Fluent English.
- Comfortable with challenging conversations; you view difficult discussions as part of the role.
- Commercial mindset — growth is key.
- ‘Phone first’ attitude — the best conversations happen over the phone or in person, not via email.
- Data-driven and innovative; comfortable using Looker is a plus.
- Based in or near London, and willing to travel further afield; you’ll be meeting clients face to face regularly.
- Experience or knowledge of software such as Asana and Salesforce is a plus.
Your Future Team
You’ll join the UK Account Management team, working closely with the Head of Account Management to drive Temper’s UK growth. This role is hybrid, with two days in the office each week. The rest of the time, you can work wherever you wish. We operate with a work-hard, win-hard attitude and you’ll have the freedom to run your own portfolio, backed by a team that celebrates success and moves quickly together.
