Position Details

Overview: Vacation Replacement Cleaners will provide vacation coverage in our Midtown properties from approximately March 1 to November 1, 2026. This is a limited-term position of five months with the potential for long-term retention based on business needs and performance evaluation.

Candidates will create a positive experience by providing superior customer service to building tenants and guests. Responsibilities include ensuring that designated areas are always clean and well organized.

Shifts (flexible):

  • 7:00am – 4:00pm
  • 8:00am – 5:00pm
  • 9:00am – 6:00pm
  • 5:00pm – 12:30am
  • 5:15pm – 12:45am
  • 8:00pm – 4:00am
  • 12:00am – 8:00am

Salary: $24.036 per hour. Overtime eligible for all hours actually worked, consistent with the Local 32BJ Collective Bargaining Agreement. Overtime rate: $36.054 per hour. Wages subject to tax withholdings and other deductions.

Responsibilities

Light Duty Responsibilities

  • Empty wastebaskets by damp-wiping in/out. Collect rubbish and place in designated area for removal.
  • Dust and wipe all furniture, equipment, telephones, and windowsills.
  • Dust baseboards, chair rails, picture frames, and doors within reach.
  • Remove finger marks and smudges from office entrance doors, light switches, door frames, and interior glass (except windows).
  • Vacuum all carpeted areas; sweep and/or damp mop all hard floor surfaces nightly.
  • Dust doors and ventilating louvers within reach.
  • Maintain janitor closet to standard level; ensure assigned equipment is clean.
  • Turn off lights and secure doors that are scheduled to be locked upon completion of cleaning.
  • Report any items not working properly or malfunctioning to your supervisor.

Porter Responsibilities

  • Perform heavy physical labor moving and pushing large amounts of trash.
  • Ability to operate freight car.
  • Operate heavy and specialized equipment safely and efficiently.
  • Operate tools and equipment in general custodial work.
  • Understand and follow work directions as provided by supervisor.
  • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision.
  • Requires the use of hands for simple grasping and fine manipulation.
  • Requires bending, squatting, crawling, lifting, and reaching.
  • Requires the ability to lift, carry, push, swing, or pull up to 75 pounds, including overhead.

Pantry Maintenance

Includes cleaning all vertical and horizontal surfaces. Clean microwave and refrigerator if directed. Thoroughly sweep and damp mop floors.

Clean Lavatories

Includes emptying all waste receptacles and replacing liners; thoroughly clean fixtures (toilet bowls, urinals, sinks, partitions, mirrors) with an approved disinfectant; replenish soap and paper dispensers; and thoroughly wash floors with an approved disinfectant.

Floor Care

Machine scrub floors, ensuring corners are thoroughly cleaned. Rinse scrubbed areas and apply floor finish. Sweep, damp mop, and spray-buff hard floor surfaces. Note: Special care must be taken not to splash solution on walls, doors, and furniture.

Rubbish Collection

Operate freight elevator; remove rubbish from designated freight elevator lobbies. Ensure all floors (freight lobbies) are thoroughly swept and mopped.

Rubbish Disposal

Dispose of collected rubbish in the proper containers (wet or dry trash). If unsure about items to discard, contact your supervisor immediately.

Qualifications

  • Prior office cleaning experience or similar environment.
  • Operate tools and equipment in general custodial work.
  • Meet all schedules and timelines.
  • Understand and follow work directions as provided by supervisor.
  • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision.
  • Follow instructions per tenant request.
  • Work cooperatively with others.
  • Observe health and safety regulations.
  • Ability to utilize two-way radio to receive information and assignments and report progress from various locations.
  • Work is performed while standing and/or walking.
  • Requires use of hands for simple grasping and fine manipulation.
  • Requires bending, squatting, crawling, lifting, and reaching.
  • Requires activities around moving machinery, exposure to temperature changes, dust, and chemical fumes.
