Role details

Junior Data Scientist

We’re looking for a hard-working, thoughtful Junior Data Scientist/Analyst who delivers results. In this role, you’ll help turn data across our internal systems into actionable, well-distributed insights — supporting how information reaches users, curating and validating content, and contributing to the broader intelligence ecosystem within Business Development. You’ll collaborate closely with engineering and business development teams.

In Business Development at Millennium, we identify and onboard trading talent and data advantages that drive profitability. Some work involves delivering reliable, established solutions, while there is also an exploratory component — extracting hidden insights from existing data, exploring new sources, and finding more effective ways to put information in front of decision-makers.

Strong Python skills are required. Experience with content curation, data validation, dashboards, and lightweight automation is highly valued. Hands-on experience with large language models (LLMs) and their practical applications is a significant plus. We value humility, reliability, clear communication, and collaborative teamwork.

Responsibilities

Data Distribution and Actionable Insights

  • Help design ways to push customized, actionable insights from internal intelligence dashboards, vendor data, documentation, and related datasets directly to users.
  • Support targeted distribution based on user coverage (region, strategy, roles), ownership, and other relevant attributes.
  • Help create recurring alerts, desktop notifications, email summaries, or workflow-triggered updates.
  • Track whether distributed insights lead to follow-up actions by relevant teams.

Data Curation and Content Support

  • Curate and structure new data as engineers process and make additional information available.
  • Support recurring deliverables such as trend analyses, industry insights, and internal summary reports.
  • Validate parsed outputs from internal notes, meeting summaries, strategy documents, and other written materials.
  • Help evaluate supplementary external datasets and publicly available sources.

Qualifications / Skills Required

  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Data Science, Statistics, or a related field.
  • 1–3 years of hands-on experience in data science, analytics, or data operations.
  • Strong Python proficiency (Pandas, NumPy, Matplotlib, Scikit-learn).
  • Exposure to data distribution mechanisms such as alerts, notifications, automated email summaries, or dashboard publishing.
  • Strong data curation and validation skills, including reviewing parsed or extracted content for accuracy and completeness.
  • Experience with SQL; familiarity with NoSQL or document databases is a plus.
  • Familiarity with LLMs and modern NLP concepts such as prompt engineering, retrieval-augmented generation (RAG), or vector databases — plus a pragmatic sense of when not to use them.
  • Comfort with data visualization tools such as Plotly, Dash, Streamlit, or similar frameworks.
  • Comfort working with unstructured content such as notes, written summaries, and other text-based sources.

How We Work (What Success Looks Like)

  • Strong ownership: Plan thoroughly, communicate proactively, and meet deadlines — we value reliability over last-minute heroics.
  • Humble and collaborative: Seek and provide constructive feedback, write clear documentation, and partner closely with engineers, users, and other stakeholders.
  • Bias toward action: Start simple, deliver iteratively, and improve based on feedback and evidence of impact.
  • User-focused mindset: Think about how insights are consumed, not just produced — success is measured by whether the right information reaches the right people at the right time.

The estimated base salary range for this position is $150,000 to $215,000, which is specific to New York and may change in the future. Millennium pays a total compensation package which includes a base salary, discretionary performance bonus, and a comprehensive benefits package. When finalizing an offer, we take into consideration an individual’s experience level and the qualifications they bring to the role to formulate a competitive total compensation package.
