About the business area

Finance teams provide the bank with internal and external financial reporting, forecasting, controls oversight, and stress testing expertise. Specialist areas also manage HSBC’s worldwide tax affairs, group treasury needs, and events for investors and analysts.

Who you are

You’re curious, analytical, and love figuring out the why behind the numbers. You enjoy solving problems, spotting patterns, and turning data into ideas that make a real difference. You don’t need to arrive knowing every financial concept – bring your curiosity, motivation, and problem-solving mindset, and we’ll help you learn the rest.

You could be a great fit if you’re:

  • Curious by nature: You’re always eager to learn something new to level up how you think and work.
  • An analytical thinker: You enjoy breaking down complex problems, looking at them from every angle, and finding smart, logical solutions.
  • A people person: You know how to build trust and great relationships – and how they help you get things done.
  • An effective communicator: You can explain complex ideas clearly, adapting your style for different audiences.
  • Self-aware: You reflect on your choices so you can do even better next time – whether you’re analysing data or collaborating with colleagues.

What you’ll do

Here’s a taste of what you’ll work on:

  • Get into the detail: Analyse complex financial data to inform big business decisions and boost performance.
  • Improving efficiency: Spot opportunities to automate reporting with cutting-edge digital and AI tools.
  • Making recommendations: Combine data and trends into reports and turn them into actionable suggestions.
  • Collaborating: Work with teams across HSBC, supporting them on finance/balance sheet management, regulatory reporting, tax, and transformation projects.
  • Shaping strategy: Apply your growing knowledge of finance to help guide HSBC’s future.

What you’ll learn

Over 10 weeks, you’ll join a specific finance team and see first-hand how business analysis drives decision-making at HSBC. You’ll get involved from day one, working on projects that have a real impact.

You’ll combine technical training, skills coaching, and hands-on work to build your confidence and capability. You’ll leave with an understanding of financial concepts, reporting, and market trends – and how they influence big business decisions.

Eligibility criteria

  • Available to work full time for 10 weeks commencing June 2026
  • Obtained, or expected to achieve, a GPA of at least 4.0 / 5.0 or 3.2 / 4.0 (as appears on your official university transcript or degree certificate), or overseas equivalent to this
