Who you are

We’re looking for curious, analytical thinkers who love solving problems and building relationships. You don’t need to know everything about investment banking – what matters most is your drive to learn, resilience, and willingness to get involved.

You could be a great fit if you’re:

  • A collaborator: You thrive in teams and know how to support others.
  • Analytical: You can break down complex data to see the bigger picture.
  • A clear communicator: You explain ideas simply, whether in person, on paper, or in presentations.
  • Resilient and driven: You stay focused under pressure, adapt quickly, and deliver to a high standard.
  • Proactive: You take ownership and don’t wait for others to solve problems.
  • A people person: You enjoy building long-term relationships based on trust.

What you’ll do

From day one, you’ll get exposure to real deals. You’ll:

  • Work with teams on live transactions, products, or market sectors, connecting with banking teams globally.
  • Explore specialist areas like Export Finance or Infrastructure Finance.
  • Learn how project, acquisition, and export finance deals work, and how we support clients on their Net Zero journeys with tailored finance and advisory solutions.
  • Apply your knowledge to financial statements, spot anomalies, and calculate key ratios.
  • Prepare and review client materials such as teasers and information memorandums.
  • Perform credit analysis and review project financials and due diligence.
  • Build financial models to support debt financing transactions and valuations.
  • Research market trends and monitor developments to create insights for internal and client use.
  • Develop your Excel and PowerPoint skills to produce accurate models and client-ready presentations.
  • Always stay compliant with regulations.

What you’ll learn

We’ll support you with all the training and development you need to succeed. Your journey typically begins with local regulated training and exams, followed by Global Graduate Induction. The induction provides an overview of HSBC and an opportunity to build a global network of graduates and business colleagues. After Global Graduate Induction, you’ll take part in a global tailored training programme to build the technical understanding and professional capability required for your role. You can expect to develop:

  • Relationship building: Learn how to connect with colleagues and clients, building trust and credibility.
  • Discretion: Develop the professionalism needed to handle sensitive deal information.
  • Financial literacy: From financial modelling to product knowledge, you’ll learn how to find the right solutions for clients.
