The AI screen is a 15-minute conversational interview that Coinbase introduced in spring 2025 and is rolling out to all eligible roles, with a recruiter still scoring every transcript. The loop is unusual enough that the assessment stage can land on a candidate's calendar within days of applying – a different cadence from bank pipelines that wait weeks before a recruiter call, and worth planning around when sequencing application bursts.

The 2026 intake spans hybrid roles in San Francisco, New York, Washington DC and Singapore and fully remote roles in others, across tracks including Software Engineer, Machine Learning Engineer, Associate Product Manager, User Researcher, Policy, and Employee & Workplace Experience. Graduates apply to the same "Internships & Emerging Talent" department for full-time entry-level roles; there is no separate named graduate scheme. Tracks compete on similar criteria, so a candidate weighing SWE versus APM is choosing function, not difficulty.

Candidates elsewhere must already be authorised to work in a country where Coinbase has employees. The policy is a hard gate before the application even starts: a student outside the US or Canada with no existing right to work in a Coinbase-operating country is not in scope for the intern pipeline, and the conversion to a full-time visa post-internship is a separate, later decision.

First, project ownership is real and shippable: past intern work includes a new Base transaction type that cut transaction sizes by up to 43%, an early build of Coinbase Learn, and contributions to the launch of the Coinbase Visa Card and Stand With Crypto. Second, Coinbase is one of the few large employers to put an AI Recruiter at the front of the funnel, a pilot expanded in 2025 toward all eligible roles. Third, the program is remote-first with hybrid pockets, paired with housing, phone/internet and wellness stipends. For an applicant choosing between crypto-native firms and traditional fintech, the distinctive trade is named, shipped intern projects in exchange for an explicit, high-bar performance culture.
