Ares Management

Interns are placed in one of eight stated business areas:

• Infrastructure
• Private Equity
• Secondaries
• Wealth Management Solutions
• Investor Relations
• Global Client Solutions

The program runs in both the US and UK and is open to current students of any major who intend to graduate between December 2027 and August 2028. University career-services listings for the cycle, such as a 2026 Secondaries–Credit summer role posted through UCLA, carry the same business-area split. Because each seat belongs to a specific business area, a credit intern and a wealth-management intern apply to different openings – so a candidate has to decide which part of the platform they are aiming at before applying, not after.

Its Credit group – roughly $422.6 billion of that total, and home to Ares Capital Corporation, the largest US business development company by market capitalisation – is the firm's largest business (Q1 2026 results coverage). For an early-career applicant that sets Ares apart from more equity- or real-estate-led peers: the centre of gravity is private credit and direct lending, so the largest share of intern seats sits in credit investing rather than M&A advisory or public-markets trading. It is a firm worth one of a limited number of applications for someone specifically drawn to buy-side credit and private-markets work, and a weaker fit for a candidate set on sell-side advisory.
