Program Summary:

The U.S. Army Tank-automotive and Armaments Command (TACOM) sustains the Army’s mission to develop, acquire, field, and sustain ground combat, tactical, and support systems throughout their lifecycle. This program focuses on ensuring the operational readiness, reliability, and safety of automotive and ground support equipment critical to Army operations. Under this contract, personnel provide maintenance, repair, overhaul, and sustainment support in accordance with Army technical manuals, safety standards, and performance requirements.

Job Summary:

The Tool and Die Maker (Part-time) supports maintenance and logistics operations by managing the tools, parts, and materials required for repair and sustainment activities. This role is responsible for issuing, receiving, tracking, and maintaining accountability of tools and parts to ensure availability and serviceability, thereby supporting maintenance efficiency and readiness through proper tool control and material availability. This position is contingent upon award.

Roles and Responsibilities

• Performs duties involved in the requisitioning, receipt, verification, storage, identification, issue, inventory, and accounting of gages and components used in all shop areas.
• Maintains control records of all tools/gages requiring calibration and ensures calibration is accomplished as scheduled.
• Operates the tool and stock room to maintain an appropriate supply level of expendable and non-expendable tools and equipment utilized in supporting repair and maintenance functions. Stock includes tools (e.g., hammers, wrenches, drills, grinders), protective clothing, and equipment (e.g., coveralls, gloves, respirators).
• Receipt, Storage and Re-warehousing: Receives, verifies the identity, quantity, and condition of incoming items. Bins items and arranges them for convenience and safety, ensuring returned items are clean and serviceable. Converts shop terms to standard nomenclatures for identification and location. Items include component parts, gages, micrometers, fixtures, calipers, indicators, stopwatches, multi-meters, scales, and electronic items. Performs necessary tagging and binning, and performs minor repairs on gages. Establishes new bin locations as needed to optimize space and efficiency.
• Selects and Issues: Selects and issues tools, equipment, and kits as requested by operating personnel. Translates shop terminology into official nomenclature to identify items, utilizing technical references and measuring devices when necessary. Fills out hand receipts for issued items and obtains recipient signatures, releasing personnel from responsibility upon return.
• Replenishment: Based on bin level inventory, notifies the supervisor or designated individual in writing of stock requirements by stock number, quantity, and price. Gathers necessary information from technical manuals, commercial catalogs, FEDLOG, internet searches, and related publications.
• Repair and Disposal: Checks the condition of returned tools, recommending salvage or repair. Obtains a quality inspector’s service for the final determination. Collects and delivers repairable items to the appropriate shop and picks up items upon repair completion, following up to ensure timely return to service.
• Minor Maintenance: Frequently checks assigned tool bins and performs maintenance on items. Conducts inventory by physical count and recording on inventory slips. Searches bins for misplaced items or conducts recounts. Cleans bins and applies appropriate preservation processes to prevent tool deterioration.
• Inventory: Periodically inventories assigned bins for stock level and reorder point, initiating replenishment requests as needed. Participates in annual or special inventories. Investigates discrepancies to locate, reconcile, or identify misstored items.
• Laundry Service: Receives soiled protective clothing (coveralls, gloves, etc.), tallies items, and prepares laundry checklists for delivery. Tallies in clean laundry and notifies drivers of missing items. If items cannot be located, the incumbent notifies the supervisor. Ensures identification is stenciled on coveralls. Performs other assigned duties, such as housekeeping in tool rooms.
• Pick-up and Delivery: Operates a 1/2-ton vehicle to pick up or deliver supplies from supply sources, repair shops, or property disposal. Loads and unloads light cargo and assists with heavier items. Verifies the identity and correct quantity of supplies and signs necessary forms. Delivers supplies to the designated location or person, and performs prescribed vehicle maintenance, completing trip reports.
• Performs other assigned duties.

Basic Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent; supplemental technical or vocational training is preferred.
• Typically 1–3 years of experience in tool room operations, supply support, inventory control, or a related field.
• Skill in verifying short, over, and damaged conditions of incoming stock by opening, counting, and visually checking container contents.
• Knowledge of procedures for reporting short, over, and damaged conditions of incoming stock.
• Ability to report these conditions to the supervisor or other responsible supply personnel when required.
• Ability to obtain or maintain a U.S. Government security clearance (as required).
• U.S. citizenship is required.

Preferred Qualifications

• Previous experience supporting DoD, Army, or TACOM programs.
• Prior government contracting experience.

Additional Information

This position requires working in a physical environment that involves standing, walking, and lifting. There may be potential exposure to machinery, tools, fuels, oils, and outdoor conditions. Employees may also be required to work shifts, overtime, or weekend support based on mission needs.

Compensation and Benefits

Salary Range: The salary range for this position is $69,000 - $103,500. Compensation offered will depend on qualifications, experience, work location, and business considerations. This range reflects the minimum and maximum target compensation for the position at the time of posting and may be modified in the future. Additional compensation and benefits may be available based on role eligibility.
