KPMG is currently seeking a Tax Intern for our Commercial Japanese practice in Business Tax Services.

Responsibilities

  • Assist in advising clients on a full spectrum of corporate tax services, including compliance, planning, and research.
  • Help prepare corporate tax returns for Japanese-owned companies operating in the United States.
  • Assist with accounting for income taxes (ASC 740 and IAS 12) reported on financial statements.
  • Work within a multidisciplinary team to provide comprehensive tax services to Japanese-based companies.
  • Build capability in key tax service delivery technologies such as Artificial Intelligence (AI), Alteryx, and Power BI.

Qualifications

Education and Experience

  • Must be currently enrolled in an accredited college or university pursuing a Bachelor's and/or Master's degree in Accounting, Finance, Taxation, Mathematics, Economics, Information Technology, Data and Analytics, Engineering (financial, industrial, or systems), or an equivalent program.
  • Preferred areas of study include Accounting and Taxation.
  • Must have completed at least one college-level accounting course at the time of application.
  • Preferred GPA of 3.0 or above.

Professional Requirements

  • Pursuing educational requirements for CPA licensure in the principal place of business (state where the office is located) (completion of academic credits required prior to starting as a Tax Associate).
  • Candidates must have additional academic credits required before obtaining their degree and/or CPA eligibility upon internship completion.
  • Bilingual proficiency in English and Japanese, with the ability to use both languages in a business environment.
  • Possess strong technical acumen, business acumen, critical thinking, and agility skills. Must demonstrate an ability to drive strategic outcomes with a professional demeanor and a collaborative leadership approach in a dynamic environment.
  • Demonstrate a strong service mindset, technical aptitude, and the ability to learn and navigate technologies such as AI, Alteryx, and Power BI, MS Office Applications (Excel, PowerPoint, Word, Outlook), and apply emerging technologies to enhance tax processes and insights.
  • Must possess excellent communication, time management, and leadership skills; be feedback-oriented and resourceful in delivering high-quality work.
  • Must reside within a reasonably commutable distance to the office and be able to travel to reasonably commutable work locations using personal vehicle or public transportation.
  • Must be able to travel and/or work on-site at client premises as needed, with relatively short notice at times.
  • Authorization to work in the U.S. without the need for employment-based visa sponsorship now or in the future is preferred.

Any offered salary is determined based on factors such as applicant skills, job responsibilities, relevant experience, degrees, certifications, and market considerations. California Salary Range: $80,000 - $100,000
