Role Purpose
Wood Mackenzie moved under private equity ownership in 2023 and is executing its Value Creation Plan to deliver high growth. As part of this growth plan and to help embed a go-to-market transformation, we have an exciting opportunity to join the global Marketing team within Product Marketing, supporting the oil and gas portfolios.
We are looking for someone who thrives in a fast-paced, dynamic global business, has a strong understanding of energy markets, and possesses a talent for storytelling. You will create compelling customer narratives across a portfolio of products in support of business priorities.
This role sits at the intersection of Product Marketing, Sales, and Growth Marketing. It ensures that the portfolio resonates with target customers, supports pipeline progression, and enables upsell and cross-sell opportunities. You will translate portfolio strategy into clear, audience-specific positioning, messaging, and commercial enablement that is consistently understood and delivered.
This is initially an 11-month fixed-term contract, with the potential to extend or become a full-time role based on business needs and performance.
Main Responsibilities
Audience and Market Insight
- Define and continuously update personas and workflows for priority audiences.
- Develop a deep understanding of customer priorities, challenges, buying behaviours, and decision drivers.
- Map audience needs to the product portfolio, identifying growth opportunities across relevant workflows.
- Monitor market trends and competitive positioning, translating findings into clear implications for messaging and commercial focus.
Product Positioning and Messaging
- Partner with Portfolio Marketing and Commercialisation leads to define audience-relevant propositions, bundles, and plays.
- Ensure messaging is clear, differentiated, and consistent across all customer-facing touchpoints.
- Define “why WoodMac” for the portfolio in the context of the target audience.
Sales and Sales Enablement Partnership
- Develop and maintain high-quality sales enablement tools, including presentations, battlecards, objection-handling guides, and case studies.
- Establish strong feedback loops, capturing frontline insight and sharing it with Marketing and other relevant teams.
- Support Sales Enablement with the effective adoption of messaging and tools through activation and guidance.
Go-to-Market Planning and Execution
- Own product positioning and messaging according to customer segmentation, enabling effective communications throughout the full product lifecycle, including launch, updates, and sunset, to achieve agreed commercial goals.
- Work with Product teams to understand roadmaps and create compelling value proposition messaging for marketing programmes and sales tools.
- Act as the marketing lead for your product portfolio in go-to-market and planning meetings, sharing product strategies with wider Marketing teams.
Growth Campaign Support
- Work with Portfolio Marketing to ensure campaign messaging frameworks are grounded in audience insight and accurately position the product portfolio.
- Support demand, upsell, and cross-sell motions through audience-relevant narratives.
- Ensure consistency between campaign messaging and broader portfolio positioning.
Performance and Continuous Improvement
- Define and track success measures related to messaging effectiveness, sales enablement impact, and audience engagement.
- Use data, including pipeline progression, win/loss insights, and content usage, to refine positioning and priorities.
- Continuously improve messaging, tools, and approaches based on performance and feedback.
About You
To be successful in this role, you will have proven experience in B2B portfolio or product marketing, ideally within energy, data, or analytics businesses. You will also have experience working in large, complex matrix organisations, a deep understanding of end-to-end go-to-market processes, and knowledge of sales-led growth models and pipeline dynamics.
- Proven ability to translate complex product portfolios into clear, compelling customer narratives.
- Experience working closely with Sales teams and building impactful enablement strategies, not just assets.
- Strong commercial mindset, with the ability to connect marketing activity to business outcomes.
- Excellent stakeholder management and cross-functional collaboration skills.
- Growth mindset and strong strategic thinking.
- Strong instinct for what will resonate with customers and why.
- Strong communication, presentation, storytelling, and writing skills.
- Strong commercial awareness and understanding of how Marketing and Sales align, including their interlocks and dependencies.
- Excellent interpersonal skills, with the ability to influence and engage peers.
- Highly structured, pragmatic, and delivery-focused mindset.
- Experience working autonomously within a matrix organisation.
- Experience working with globally distributed teams.
Working Expectations
- This is an 11-month fixed-term contract, with the potential to extend.
- Wood Mackenzie operates as a hybrid working company. The successful applicant is expected to work from the office at least two days per week to foster strong working relationships and contribute to the company culture. This may be subject to change in the future.
- Due to the global nature of the team, a degree of flexible working will be required to accommodate different time zones.
