The Equity Research department covers over 925 stocks across diverse sectors and provides equity strategy, quantitative analysis, and portfolio management services. The U.S. Equity Research department consists of 34 analysts and approximately 50 associates, covering over 600 stocks.
Role Summary
We are seeking an Equity Research Associate to join our U.S. Real Estate/REITs team. The associate will work closely with the senior analyst to develop and market equity research products. The role requires strong analytical and critical thinking skills, a passion for the stock market, keen attention to detail, and a strong work ethic.
The work environment emphasizes collaboration, coordination, and a shared knowledge base, while also valuing independence, initiative, idea generation, and ownership.
Ideal Candidate
Our ideal candidate has 1–2 years of equity research or real estate finance experience, is fully licensed, and is interested in joining an established REIT team with coverage of over 80 companies. Strong accounting and finance skills, a passion for real estate and the stock market, and the ability to work on a fast-paced equity research team are critical.

Responsibilities
- Build and maintain detailed company models (IS/BS/CF)
- Analyze financial statements and news related to industry coverage
- Conduct store and channel checks
- Write equity research reports and, over time, formulate investment theses
- Participate in site visits and management meetings
- Maintain and analyze industry data
- Communicate investment recommendations to internal and external clients
- Collaborate on tools and processes to gather industry and company-related news for one-off products or integration into regular research
- Help establish industry, regulatory, and political relationships to better predict and/or handicap industry trends and company-related events
- List any other team-specific responsibilities, or delete anything not relevant
Experience & Skills
A combination of exceptional writing skills, technical knowledge, and skills in equity research, finance, or accounting—demonstrated through relevant work and educational experience—is required. Prior industry experience in U.S. Real Estate/REITs is not required but could be a benefit. Candidates must have a clear and proven track record of achievement throughout their education and career.

- Exceptional written and verbal communication skills
- Strong organizational skills and comfort managing various priorities
- Client service mindset and ability to prioritize client needs with accuracy
- Ability to interact professionally with company management teams and clients (analysts and portfolio managers)
- A keen interest in and demonstrated understanding of Equity Research
- Positive attitude, intellectual curiosity, ability to learn quickly, and strong attention to detail
- Superior work ethic; self-motivated; able to work collaboratively as well as independently
- Ability to systematically manage a heavy workload and meet stringent deadlines
- Flexibility to work irregular and extended hours
- Solid technology skills with robust knowledge of Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Bloomberg and/or FactSet
- Demonstrated use of AI in the workplace
- CFA Charter or working towards the CFA designation is a plus

Education
A bachelor’s degree is required. A post-secondary degree in a related field of study is a plus. U.S. only.
Compensation
Equity Research Associate Salary Range: $110,000 up to $140,000 USD (subject to meeting specific skills, experience, education, and qualification requirements)
Senior Research Associate Salary Range: $150,000 up to $180,000 USD (subject to meeting specific skills, experience, education, and qualification requirements)

For commission roles, the salary listed represents BMO Financial Group’s expected target for the first year in this position.
