Weatherbys publishes two named early-career routes on its careers site:

• Private Bank Internship Programme: eight weeks, starting late June or beginning of July, office-based in London, Edinburgh or Wellingborough. The firm states it offers "a limited number of places each summer" and that interns rotate across both client-facing teams (banking, business development, investment advice) and central functions (IT, HR, finance, risk, compliance, marketing, operations). • Associate Private Banker scheme: a two-year fixed-term programme the firm describes as a structured route to becoming a Private Banker, combining mentorship from senior bankers with direct client contact across the high-net-worth book.

Alongside these the firm runs an Edinburgh Napier University partnership pipeline for technology and AI talent into Edinburgh-based placements, and posts ad-hoc work-experience opportunities out of Wellingborough. The total annual intake is small – a candidate applying here is competing for a single-digit class, not a graduate scheme of the kind run by the larger UK wealth managers.

Three things shape what early-career work looks like here that do not at the larger UK wealth managers:

• Weatherbys Racing Bank: a dedicated banking division for racehorse owners, trainers and industry professionals – VAT return services, the Racing Payment Service, yearling-sales FX. This is a niche client base with no direct equivalent in mainstream UK private banking.
• A small UK footprint by design: four offices (London, Wellingborough HQ, Edinburgh, Manchester) and a deliberately small annual intern class, so a successful applicant sits closer to the senior team than the equivalent grade at a Coutts or a UBS Wealth.
• A four-entity group rather than a single private bank: the Private Bank sits alongside the recently launched Business Bank, the Racing Bank, and Arkle Finance (asset finance). An intern's exposure crosses these in a way the firm explicitly designs into the rotation.

For a candidate weighing Weatherbys against a large UK wealth manager, the trade-off is breadth versus access: fewer formalised training streams and qualifications, but earlier and more direct exposure to senior bankers and to a genuinely specialised client base.
