Data Scientist Analyst - Secondaries & Primaries

The Role

This position offers a unique opportunity to immerse yourself in the fast-paced world of private equity, specifically within the innovative Secondaries and Primaries market. As a Data Scientist joining the Secondaries & Primaries team at Ardian, you will leverage analytical and data science skills to support investment strategies and decision-making processes within our fast-growing team.

You will work closely with the investment team, applying data science methodologies to optimize investment models, analyze market trends, and enhance data-driven insights for the Secondaries and Primaries markets. This role involves working on both established datasets and structuring new data sources in close collaboration with our data engineering team.

Key Responsibilities & Projects

Current projects involve, but are not limited to:

• Portfolio-level analytics: developing proprietary machine learning models for fund and company performance modeling and GP benchmarking.
• Integrating AI into day-to-day team workflows, covering aspects such as pricing and other deal-related items.
• Market intelligence: identifying key trends within private equity markets.
• Deal execution: supporting data-driven screening of opportunities and valuation support.
• Risk assessment: conducting scenario modeling for fund investments.
• Supporting responses to LP analytics and data-driven requests.

Required Skills and Qualifications

Technical Skills

• Programming languages and technical stack proficiency (SQL, Python, R, GitHub, Databricks, Snowflake).
• Machine learning & AI expertise (predictive modeling, generative AI, NLP). Experience developing AI tools and agentic workflows is advantageous.
• Strong foundation in statistical analysis and econometrics.
• Experience with data visualization tools (e.g., Tableau, Power BI).

Business & Investment Skills

• Knowledge of the finance and private equity sector, with a strong desire to understand Secondaries and Primaries market dynamics.
• Proficiency in financial modeling and valuation.
• Experience in market analysis and competitive intelligence.
• Understanding of investment processes (deal sourcing, due diligence, portfolio monitoring).
• Strong analytical and problem-solving capabilities.

Soft Skills

• Excellent communication skills, with the ability to present complex technical concepts clearly and concisely.

Profile and Communication Scope

• Education: Degree in Computer Science, Statistics, Data Science, or a related field.
• Experience: 1-3 years of relevant experience. The role will initially focus on supporting senior team members, with increasing ownership over models and analyses as experience grows.
• Collaboration: Familiarity working with international teams and across different cultures.
• Communication: Required to liaise directly with various internal team members and must be confident in requesting and providing information to all levels of management. This role requires significant interaction with teams in Europe and other Ardian offices/geographies.
