Job Description

The Actuarial Internship at Sun Life Hong Kong is a six-month, full-time internship placement for students who wish to explore a career as an actuary in Hong Kong. Interns will gain hands-on experience with various actuarial tasks and in-depth exposure to the operations of a leading global insurance firm.

During the six-month placement, interns will be matched with one of our top-performing teams and supported by experienced colleagues and managers throughout their learning and development journey toward becoming an actuary.

Key Responsibilities

Depending on the team assignment, interns will gain hands-on experience with key actuarial tasks, including but not limited to:

• Preparing special quotes and illustrations, regular statistical returns, and reports
• Participating in the product development and implementation process, including experience studies, market comparisons, and User Acceptance Testing (UAT)
• Maintaining customer databases and preparing related statistics
• Supporting actuarial valuation modelling activities
• Supporting annual experience studies
• Supporting the preparation of reinsurance reports and the monthly valuation process
• Supporting quarterly and monthly reports to monitor Asset Liability Management (ALM) risks, including interest rate, equity, currency, and liquidity risks
• Assisting with the analysis of ALM strategies for operating and surplus segments to optimize the risk-return trade-off

Job Requirements

• Year 2–4 student pursuing Actuarial Studies or another quantitative subject, such as Statistics, Data Science, or Risk Management
• Progress in SOA actuarial examinations or equivalent is preferred but not required
• Proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Access, and FoxPro
• Programming skills and knowledge of GGY AXIS are an advantage
• Strong analytical and communication skills
