Role details

Company Overview

Gecko Robotics is empowering the world’s most critical organizations by ensuring the availability, reliability, and sustainability of essential infrastructure. Our complete and connected solutions—combining wall-climbing robots, industry-leading sensors, and an AI-powered data platform—provide customers with a unique insight into the current and future health of their physical assets. This capability enables real-time decision-making to boost operational efficiency and safety, promote mission readiness, and protect civilization from infrastructure failure.

Role at a Glance

Gecko Robotics is seeking a Full Stack Software Engineering Intern to join our Engineering team in New York for Summer 2027. This is a full-time, onsite internship, requiring work Monday through Friday.

Our Engineering teams build customer-facing applications that transform complex robot, sensor, and document data into actionable decisions about infrastructure health. You will contribute across the stack on a defined project, building frontend workflows, backend services, and data pipelines to make complex asset data usable by maintenance personnel. You will ship real features into a product customers rely on, with dedicated mentorship and the autonomy to own your assigned pieces.

Due to government program requirements, candidates must be authorized to work in the United States.

What You Will Do

  • Own a scoped full-stack project from initial design through final deployment under the guidance of experienced engineers.
  • Build user-facing features in React and TypeScript that support real operational workflows.
  • Develop backend APIs and services in Python to ingest, transform, and serve structured and unstructured data.
  • Design data models and schemas, and write the logic required to parse, associate, and validate data from multiple sources.
  • Utilize version control, code review, testing, and structured debugging processes to produce highly maintainable code.
  • Collaborate closely with engineers, product managers, and Forward Deployment Engineers to understand customer use cases; there is an opportunity to travel to a customer site during the summer.
  • Present your project outcomes, key results, and proposed next steps at the conclusion of the internship.

Technologies We Use

Our primary technology stack includes React, TypeScript, Python, PostgreSQL, REST APIs, Git, Linux, and cloud infrastructure (GCP). Depending on the project scope, you may also work extensively with LLM APIs and data-processing pipelines, 3D visualization, or containerized deployments. Specific tools will be determined by the assigned project.

About You – The Ideal Candidate

You are a proactive builder who finds satisfaction in seeing your work used in the real world. You are comfortable operating across the full stack, skilled at decomposing large problems into deployable units, and able to communicate clearly about your progress, learnings, and future technical direction.

Required Skills and Qualifications

  • Currently pursuing a bachelor’s or master’s degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or a closely related technical discipline, with an expected graduation date between December 2027 and May 2028.
  • Ability to commit to being onsite in New York, Monday through Friday, for the entire Summer 2027 internship period.
  • Foundational programming experience in Python and JavaScript or TypeScript, including familiarity with object-oriented or functional programming concepts.
  • Proven experience building a web application end-to-end (covering both frontend and backend) through academic coursework, personal projects, research, hackathons, or prior internships.
  • Working familiarity with Git or comparable version control systems.
  • Understanding of relational databases and RESTful API principles.
  • Strong written and verbal communication abilities, including the competence to document technical work, articulate design tradeoffs, and collaborate effectively on ambiguous tasks.
  • Demonstrated capacity to independently identify knowledge gaps, remain highly organized, and effectively apply feedback for improvement.

Preferred Skills

  • Prior experience developing with React and TypeScript in a live project setting.
  • Experience in designing data schemas or working hands-on with complex, messy, real-world datasets.
  • Exposure to cloud infrastructure, particularly GCP, and familiarity with containerization tools like Docker.
  • Experience integrating LLM or other external AI APIs into an application.
  • Interest or foundational knowledge in 3D visualization or spatial data processing.
  • A keen interest in industrial, defense, or critical infrastructure applications where system reliability is paramount to mission success.
