Software Engineering Intern (Summer 2027)

About Viam

Founded by Eliot Horowitz, co-founder and former CTO of MongoDB, Viam is a robotics engineering platform that lets you configure, control, and manage robots intuitively and quickly. We’re inspiring a generation of engineers to solve complicated automation problems with a uniquely powerful suite of software tools. We’re a ~100-person company headquartered in New York City.

Viam’s products are built by engineers, for engineers. We want to build a platform we would want to use ourselves. We are looking for students studying computer science or related fields to collaborate with our full-time engineers on building out the software for our platform. This is a software engineering internship, not hardware.

Our current tech stack consists of Golang (backend), ES.Next/TypeScript/Svelte/Vue.js (frontend), Linux, MongoDB (database), and a variety of hardware.

You’ll be:

• Working across the stack on new and unique problems in robotics and cloud computing
• Fully integrated with the full-time engineering organization, matched to a specific team with an assigned mentor
• Using state-of-the-art technologies that best tackle our problems
• Learning engineering best practices in real-world production environments
• Testing out the software we build by working with robotics hardware

We’re looking for someone who:

• Is in the process of receiving a Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Robotics, or a related field, with at least one additional term after the end of the internship
• Is available to intern in person at our New York City office for 10–12 weeks during the summer of 2027
• Has a strong foundation in computer science fundamentals, including algorithms, data structures, architecture and/or robotics
• Has experience with various programming languages
