Junior Legal Counsel - 12 Month FTC
Location: Hybrid — Swindon (Wiltshire) or Paddington (London)
Salary: Up to £94,000

Role overview

We are recruiting a Junior Legal Counsel on a fixed-term contract to support GDPR, global privacy obligations and emerging AI regulation. You will help embed privacy-by-design across products, support operational decision-making, and contribute to Edenred’s privacy and AI governance programs.

Key responsibilities

• Support privacy risk management, including conducting and advising on DPIAs and related assessments to enable compliant product and project decisions.
• Manage data subject rights requests end-to-end, ensuring timely, accurate and rights-respecting responses.
• Draft, review and help implement privacy and AI-related policies, procedures and standard contractual clauses.
• Maintain and improve records of processing activities and support governance and audit processes.
• Monitor regulatory developments (GDPR, e-privacy, EU AI Act and related guidance) and translate legal change into clear, practical internal guidance.
• Provide pragmatic, business-facing legal support to colleagues across product, engineering, security and commercial teams.
• Collaborate with the Data Protection Office (DPO, Group DPO, PPS EU DPO) to align approaches and ensure consistency across jurisdictions.
• Support privacy awareness and training initiatives for the organisation.

Essential experience & qualifications

• Law degree from a UK or European institution.
• Practical experience in roles with significant personal data protection responsibilities (e.g., law firm, in-house legal team, international company, or Data Protection Authority).
• Certification in data protection or privacy (CIPP/E or equivalent) and/or demonstrable experience in new technology law.
• Solid working knowledge of GDPR and practical experience applying data protection law in operational or product development contexts.
• Strong analytical, communication and problem-solving skills; confident advising cross-functional teams.
• Proven integrity, collaborative working style and commitment to responsible data use.

Desirable

• Experience in payments, fintech or regulated financial services.
• Familiarity with the EU AI Act and AI governance frameworks.
• Advanced spoken/written French.
