The Role

Software Engineers at Palantir build software at scale to transform how organizations around the world use data. As a Defense Tech Software Engineer Intern, you’ll have an opportunity to grow quickly as you contribute high-quality code directly to Palantir's Gotham product. Our defense product vertical builds mission-critical products for the modern warfighter, enabling secure data integration, rich analyses, and full-fledged programs such as common operating pictures, alert-triaging inboxes, and resource allocation planning tools driven by rich ML models. These offerings support daily operations in command centers and battlefronts of militaries worldwide.

Palantir's Product Development organization is made up of small teams of Software Engineers, each focusing on a specific aspect of a product. You may join a team that builds geospatial mapping tools for mission-critical operations or a component of the Gotham release infrastructure. We encourage collaboration across teams to share context, skills, and experience so you’ll learn about many aspects of each product.

Core Responsibilities

As a Defense Tech Intern, you will support work specifically focused on delivering Palantir Defense capabilities to our most critical mission partners. You’ll be involved throughout the product lifecycle—from idea generation, design, and prototyping to execution and shipping. You’ll be paired with a mentor dedicated to your growth and success. You’ll collaborate closely with technical and non-technical counterparts to understand our customers' problems and build products that tackle them.

Technologies We Use

We value the ability to write clean, effective code and to learn new languages quickly. Our software evolves continually, so we seek engineers who can adapt. We currently use:

• Varying languages, including Java and Go for backend, and TypeScript for frontend
• Open-source technologies like Cassandra, Spark, Elasticsearch, React, and Redux
• Industry-standard build tooling, including Gradle and GitHub

What We Value

Ability to communicate and collaborate with a variety of individuals, including engineers, users, and non-technical team members. Willingness to learn, make decisions independently, and ask questions when needed.

What We Require

• Engineering background in Computer Science, Mathematics, Software Engineering, or Physics
• Familiarity with data structures, storage systems, cloud infrastructure, front-end frameworks, and other technical tools
• Active US Security clearance, or eligibility and willingness to obtain a US Security clearance prior to start of internship
• Experience coding in Java, C++, Python, JavaScript, or similar languages
• Planning to graduate in 2028; this should be your final internship before graduating

Salary

The estimated salary range for this position is approximately $10,500/month. Total compensation will be determined by the individual’s qualifications, experience, and other factors. This estimate excludes benefits and potential long-term incentives.
